Publisher's Description

Lofty dreams of a new and better life lured untold thousands to America between 1775 and 1906. Among those “huddled masses yearning to be free” are nine displaced individuals dumped upon American soil and trying to figure out how to pursue happiness, make a home, and secure love. Journey with them through this beautifully packaged collection of nine romances by top Christian authors, including Judith Miller.

Author Bio

IRENE BRAND is a lifelong resident of West Virginia, where she lives with her husband, Rod. Irene's first inspirational romance was published in 1984, and since that time she has had multiple books published. She is the author of four non-fiction books, various devotional materials, and her writings have appeared in numerous historical, religious, and general magazines. Irene became a Christian at the age of eleven and continues to be actively involved in her local church. Before retiring in 1989 to devote full time to freelance writing, Irene taught for 23 years in secondary public schools. Many of her books have been inspired while traveling to 49 of the United States and 24 foreign countries.

Kristy Dykes—wife to Rev. Milton Dykes, mother to two beautiful young women, grandmother, and native Floridian—was author of hundreds of articles, a weekly cooking column, short stories, and novels. She was also a public speaker whose favorite topic was on "How to Love Your Husband." Her goal in writing was to "make them laugh, make them cry, and make them wait" (a Charles Dickens’s quote). She passed away from this life in 2008.

NANCY J. FARRIER is an award-winning author of numerous books, articles, short stories, and devotions living in Southern California. She is married and the mother of five children and one grandson. Nancy feels called to share her faith with other through her writing.

PAMELA GRIFFIN lives in Texas with her family. She fully gave her life to Christ in 1988 after a rebellious young adulthood and owes the fact that she’s still alive today to an all-loving and forgiving God and to a mother who steadfastly prayed and had faith that God could bring her wayward daughter “home.” Pamela’s main goal in writing Christian romance is to help and encourage those who do know the Lord and to plant a seed of hope in those who don’t.

JoAnn lives on the Minnesota prairie which is a setting for many of her stories. Once a full-time CPA,  JoAnn now spends most of her time researching and writing. JoAnn has published historical nonfiction books for children and several novels with Barbour Publishing in the Heartsong Presents line as well as the American Adventure and Sisters in Time series for children. Several of her novellas are included in CBA best-selling anthologies by Barbour Publishing. JoAnn’s love of history developed when she worked at an historical restoration in North Carolina for five years. She enjoys researching and weaving her fictional characters’ lives into historical backgrounds and events. JoAnn believes that readers can receive a message of salvation and encouragement from well-crafted fiction. She captivates and addresses the deeper meaning between life and faith.

Sally Laity considers it a joy to know that the Lord can touch other hearts through her stories. She has written both historical and contemporary novels, including a co-authored series for Tyndale House and another for Barbour Publishing, nine Heartsong Romances, and twelve Barbour novellas. Her favorite pastimes include quilting for her church’s Prayer Quilt Ministry and scrapbooking. She makes her home in the beautiful Tehachapi Mountains of southern California with her husband of fifty years and enjoys being a grandma and great-grandma.

JUDITH MCCOY MILLER is an award-winning author whose avid research and love for history are reflected in her novels, many of which have appeared on the CBA bestseller lists. Judy makes her home in Topeka, Kansas.

In first grade, Janet Spaeth was asked to write a summary of a story about a family making maple syrup. She wrote all during class, through morning recess, lunch, and afternoon recess, and asked to stay after school. When the teacher pointed out that a summary was supposed to be shorter than the original story, Janet explained that she didn’t feel the readers knew the characters well enough, so she was expanding on what was in the first-grade reader. Thus a writer was born. She lives in the Midwest and loves to travel, but to her, the happiest word in the English language is home.

Although this book was not what I anticipated, it delivered a surprising historical, cross cultural collection of stories. It was not the expected northern European immigrant's story. It offered insight and credance to our varied backgrounds, portraying the real life struggles women faced when they came to America. As a history buff I was delighted to learn a great deal in each of the 9 short stories. Each American's legacy is unique and this book reinforces that concept. You can't help but personally absorb a part of each woman's struggle as they navigate the differences in culture they encountered.

In the era of e-books, the external presentation of this book alone draws you to open its' pages. The pages are of varying size and give the appearance of a personal journal. The painting on the cover further beckons you to explore the way our ancestors and neighbors came to this country.

A hearty thanks to each of the authors and the work of heart they contributed to this book. I appreciate the integration of living faith, including the plan of salvation, that is often lacking in christian stories. This collection is appropriate for young and old alike; each story is shared in a way that is neither prudish nor too explicit.

There are multiple stories in the book and each one is unique. I enjoyed each story and thought they were all well written. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I really liked how the stories included a diverse group of women. I did not expect that when picking up the book. The women are all written with intriguing personalities and interesting story lines. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for some small stories that are enjoyable to read. You can choose to read one or a few and not spend too much time. I highly recommend this collection and hope each author continues to write other stories like these!

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

Nine authors team up in their new book, "The Immigrant Brides Collection" published by Barbour Publishing Inc. to give us nine Historical Romances that celebrate settling in America.

From the back cover: Seeking second chances

Lofty dreams of a new and better life lured untold thousands to America between 1775 and 1906. Among those "huddled masses yearning to be free" are nine displaced individuals dumped upon American soil and are trying to discover how to pursue happiness, make a home, and secure love.

A displaced Acadian in "Capucine: Home to My Heart" by Janet Spaeth

A Hessian soldier in "The Angel of Nuremberg" by Irene Brand

An indentured servant in "Freedom's Cry" by Pamela Griffin

A Mexican Loyalist in "Blessed Land" by Nancy J. Farrier

A Swedish immigrant in "Prairie Schoolmarm" by JoAnn A. Grote

A Chinese slave in "The Golden Chord" by Judith Miller

A desperate Scottish widow in "I Take Thee, a Stranger" by Kristy Dukes

A homeless Irish servant in "Promises Kept" by Sally Laity

A Chinese orphan in "The Blessing Basket" by Judith Miller

From the four corners of the globe they came, placing their hopes on the American dream. Can they truly find the new life they desire and the freedom to let their hearts soar in love and faith?

"The Immigrant Brides Collection" is great fun to read. Each story, though different, gives you the sights and sounds and feel of giving up your native country to begin a new life in America. This is a book where you wrap yourself in a cozy blanket, make yourself comfortable in your favorite chair and have warm cider to drink as you savor each story. All the stories are so well written and the romance is perfect, tender not overboard or forced. Through the different stories about immigrants from different countries we learn that we are all the same, we all have hopes and dreams and it is wonderful to see how, in each story, the characters realize those dreams. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more collections like this.
