Excellent collection of theologically-sound hymns
March 31, 2011
We have thoroughly enjoyed Hymns of Grace and Glory as we seek to find hymns that glorify God. In a day when music and lyrics are both trivialized, it is a refreshing breath of fresh air to find such a great hymnal.
Hymns of Grace and Glory includes many timeless favorites, some of which are increasingly hard to find, as well as new hymns that have both doctrinally sound words and melodious music. Another excellent section is the Psalms section, presenting over a third of the Psalms in an easy-to-sing format. Many of these Psalm selections are set to familiar tunes, and several different settings are included for each well-known Psalm (i.e. "The King of Love My Shepherd Is" and "The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want" are two different hymn settings of Psalm 23, and are both included in the hymnal).
Another great feature of Hymns of Grace and Glory is the wealth of information included in the index section. Hymns are categorized by tune, meter, title and first line, author, and topic. The topical index includes everything from admonition to morning hymns to stewardship to singing.
Overall, Hymns of Grace and Glory is our favorite hymnal! We highly recommend it to individuals and churches who want to have God-centered worship.
