Husbands for Hire Trilogy
November 3, 2014
Kelly Eileen Hake is one of my top favorite authors, along with Beverly Lewis, Flannery O'Connor, Ted Dekker, Tony Morrison, and others!
When I read Husbands for Hire, I found myself hurrying to get my daily duties completed so I could "get back to Hope Falls" and find out what was going to happen next. What I most enjoy is the Christian thread that runs through these stories and the satisfying endings that leave my heart at peace.
I intend to donate my books to the local shelter for the homeless when I'm finished, so I can pay forward the gospel message and hope for the hopeless.
The 1880's seting of sawmills, logging, and played out mines - dangerous times combined with a chance to succeed as big as any man could ask. I could see myself as one of those men answering that ad. I could feel the freedom to succeed that time offered and yet each of the Husbands for Hire were driven by other motives besides just the money. I did find ending of the series realistic, I know the personality. A women for a villian! She was as cold as they come! That alone was worth the reading.
Would this series be worth another reading? I think so.
This is an interesting book, although a bit wordy, in my opinion. The story line is good, but it gets a little tedious with all the detail. I'm actually having a difficult time with finishing the last of the book, because it's not a book that keeps me turning pages, anticipating what will happen next. I feel more inclined to skim through just to find out what happens in the end, so that I can move on to another book.
