Publisher's Description

We all experience emotional pain--and even devastation--in our lives, but few of us know how to deal with it properly. Our unresolved pain accumulates deep within the recesses of our hearts, in a place Jimmy Evans calls the "hurt pocket." The more pain we accumulate, the more we are mentally, emotionally, and relationally crippled. But what if we could reach into that hurt pocket, confront our pain, and experience release and freedom?

Jimmy Evans shows readers how to completely remove and resolve every negative event from their past that is compromising their present and keeping them from their God-given destiny. He helps readers forgive others and themselves and discover true inner peace.

Perfect for individuals, as well as small groups and entire churches, When Life Hurts will help set people free from the pain of the past so they can live fully in the present and look forward to the future.

Somehow I got this book after my son and his girlfriend passed away together from an overdose. My regret is I didn't read this before and could have shared with them. They both had a hurt heart as Jimmy Evans talks about in the book. This is one of the best books I have read on the subject. I've also purchased several of this book to give away in my son's memory.

I have watched Jimmy Evans on TV and I enjoy his messages and insight, however, this book is very repetitive and redundant. He has good suggestions, but spends WAY too much time repeating the same things. This book could have been half the size! The stories of his youth are too long and detailed, and many of the things that "hurt" him seem to be things that kids just go through....things that you'd have to make into an issue (like the Little League story).

I bought this book after reading the other review ( I actually bought 3 - two for friends!), which I now regret. To be honest, I got very bored only half way through it. I think it's because I was reading a different book (which I got at the library - on the same subject) when I ordered this one. The library book is called "The Promise", actually written by a Catholic priest. Being a Protestant, I was shocked at how much it ministered to me. It's so much deeper that Jimmy Evans book and packed with such wisdom that it seems God inspired, rather than man's experiences. "Catholic" doctrine is not pushed or even mentioned, although I disagree with some of his views on embracing suffering. After reading the Catholic book, this book fell flat!! "The Promise" is totally "Jesus" centered, where as "When Life Hurts" seems to be "people" centered. Since Jesus is the healer, I found the first book to be much more helpful.

I got to a point in my life where I would just cry for no reason. I couldn't even talk about it or I would cry. I watch Jimmy Evans when I can catch him on and I always enjoy his message. I ordered this book and when I was done l couldn't believe the peace I felt in my heart. All the hurt and anger I was feeling was just lifted away. My whole outlook is different now and I thank Jimmy Evans for this book. I have told so many people about it.
