An enjoyable story, it is modeled after Robin Hood and Swan Lake according to the author.
Odette Menkels is the adopted daughter of her uncle, Rutger. Orphaned at a young age, she was left to live life on the streets until her uncle rescued her.
Odette remembers being hungry and has vowed to help other orphans. She has become an adept and cunning huntress in the forest of the margrave. She feels justified in her hunting. After all, the margrave's forest is full of deer, enough to feed many of the city's poor and starving orphans.
Jorgen Hartman is the margrave's forester and has been tasked with tracking down a poacher. He takes his assignment seriously because the man who raised him was murdered by a poacher. As he begins to track down the hunter, he notices eerie similarities between the earlier murder and the current hunter's arrows and hunting style. Could they possibly be the same person, after all this time?
Odette and Jorgen meet at the Midsummer Festival and feel an immediate connection. As they dance and exchange stories, Odette realizes Jorgen was an orphan too. However, even worse, he is her sworn enemy, as he has vowed to capture the elusive Thornbeck hunter.
As Odette continues with her hunting, she realizes something is wrong, but can she solve the mystery? Will Jorgen realize who she is and turn her in to the margrave? If he turns her in, will the margrave execute her?
The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest is written for the Young Adult (YA) market; however, it will appeal to older readers also.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The book's feminine heroine is Odette, is poaching in Thornbeck forest to try and provide food for the poor people of her town. Jorgen is the handsome forester that is in charge of finding the poacher, whom he is unaware is the beautiful woman that he has taken a sudden liking too, even though she's above his station. I love how when Odette faces a cross road in her life, she turns to God for guidance and has faith that he will guide her in what she should do. The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest is another wonderful book by Melanie Dickerson, just as all her other books are.
(I was given an advanced readers copy by the author and the above is my honest review.)

by: Melanie Dickerson
Wow, What a story, The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest is the best book that I have read in a while . Melanie Dickerson weaves together a Medieval fairy tale based on Swan Lake and Robin Hood. I would say that this book is more for a broader audience and not just for the young. The Huntress grabbed me right at the first and did not let go till the end ,and then was sad to see it end. It seem like I could not read fast enough to see what was going to happen next. At times i felt tears rolling down my face. I loved the characters Odette and Jorgen. Odette is a beautiful young maiden who is very kind. Jorgen is a handsome Margraves Forester. They both have had a hard childhood life. I loved the spiritual parts woven throughout the story. The Huntress of Thornbeck is one book you do not want to miss out on, it is a good clean romance. Melanie Dickerson did not disappoint me and I cant wait till the next book . I was given an ARC from the author for my honest review, which I have given.
jenilee220OhioAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5LOVED this book!!February 28, 2015jenilee220OhioAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Another one of my favorite February reads. Melanie Dickerson knows how to write fairy tale like stories with beautiful characters. I was excited to see the description of this book and couldn't wait to read it!
I was not disappointed at all. The story is well written, strong and full of mystery. This is one of those books where you literally ache with the characters and find yourself cheering right along with them as they learn great lessons of faith, trust, love and forgiveness. I love when a book can capture so much feeling in its pages!
History comes alive with this sweet tale!
JCMorrowsAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5I could hardly wait to get my hands on this one and once I did, I couldnt read it fast enough!January 19, 2015JCMorrowsAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I LOVE being a book reviewer!
Thomas Nelson has made an excellent choice with Melanies newest story and theyve made this fan a very happy reader!
I could hardly wait to get my hands on this one and once I did, I couldnt read it fast enough!
Melanie Dickerson tells or I should say retells fairy tales better than anyone else Ive ever read!
Once you start reading, you wont be able to put it down either. Not only are the stories fascinating, the characters are exceptionally crafted and the fairy tale elements are perfectly sprinkled in to make this just as wonderful as anything you will have read by Grimm or Perrault!
In this case, Melanie has taken two stories and woven them together to create a rich tapestry of danger, deception and daring-do!
I refuse to give away even a shred of this magnificent story but I will tell you that Melanies talent has taken the extra step required to move from the YA market to a book that will appeal to Adults just as much maybe even more than Melanies young adult audience.
I will say this though do NOT think you know whats coming with this story! Melanie will not only have you swooning with her romance, shell have you on the edge of your seat with the danger Odette faces. And you will NEVER see the end coming!
