See the nativity story as never before! Humphrey is a grumpy camel who is cold, hungry, and tired of carrying large trunks on his back. He is travelling with the three wise men to give gifts to baby Jesus. See how even a grumpy camel sees what a joyous and wondrous occasion this birth is! Filled with delightful illustrations, Humphrey's First Christmas is sure to be a favorite with children.
The story of the three wise men, who bring their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the baby Jesus, has been told time and again, but what about thecamels who carried them?

Tell us a little about yourself. I've written/illustrated twenty-six children's picture books, including THE FIRST CHRISTMAS and THE FIRST EASTER, but HUMPHREY'S FIRST CHRISTMAS is my own original story with art.
What was your motivation behind this project? I wanted to find a new way of bringing the Christmas story to life for children. Since the birth of the Baby Jesus is such a joyous time, I thought that using humor to show that anyone, including a goofy/grumpy camel could feel the wonder and importance of that day was a good message.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? That Humphrey changed from a self centered grumpy character, when love for the Baby Jesus became the most important thing in his life.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Pat Pingry, my publisher at Ideals Children's Books, worked with me on many of the milestones in my career. The first book I ever illustrated, the first story I retold and finally, Humphrey's First Christmas, our last project together before she retired. We came full circle together and that meant a lot to me.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My parents, William J. and Merlyn Heyer were always my inspiration. Their support and love gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams.
I'm inspired by many artists, including Maxfield Parrish, John William Waterhouse, William-Adolphe Bouguereau and the Brothers Hildebrandt.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I hope you like Humphrey as much as I do!!
