James Hudson Taylor (1832-1905) was a Christian missionary to China, and founder of the China Inland Mission (renamed Overseas Missionary Fellowship). He served there for 51 years, bringing over 800 missionaries to the country and personally baptizing an estimated 50,000 converts. He was famous for his commitment to cultural sensitivity, wearing Chinese dress even though this was rare among missionaries of that time. China Inland Mission accepted working class volunteers, women, multinational recruits, and members of all Protestant denominations.
Hudson Taylor has been referred to as one of the most significant figures in the history of China in the 19th century, and the China Inland Mission was responsible for the widest Christian evangelistic campaign since the first century when Paul the Apostle brought Christian teaching to Europe. At Taylors death in 1905, there were 205 stations with 849 missionaries and 125,000 Chinese Christians in the China Inland Mission.
This is the classic biography of James Hudson Taylor by his son Howard and daughter-in-law Geraldine, who also served as missionaries to China. It is the inspiring story of Taylors uncovering of the spiritual secret that paved the way for the China Inland Mission to become a reality.
This classic title has sold hundreds of thousands of copies since its original publication in 1932. Hendrickson introduces a lovely edition, re-typeset and redesigned, a perfect gift for anyone who wants to replace the old paperback or who is encountering Hudson Taylors Spiritual Secret for the first time.
Dr. Frederick Howard Taylor(18621946)was the second son of James Hudson Taylor, founder of the China Inland Mission and followed in his fathers footsteps to serve as a medical missionary in China. In 1894 he married Mary Geraldine Guinness, a friend from childhood who also served as a CIM missionary in China. Together they authored several books, including a comprehensive history of the China Inland Mission.

This is not a complaint or a criticism, but it is to show the transformation that occurred in Hudson Taylor's life. His life radically changed, and so did the story, when he discovered "Christ who is your life." And his life became one of powerful inspiration and ours can be too. I would recommend this!
Mary E. Dow5 Stars Out Of 5January 11, 2009Mary E. DowHudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret has been one of the most influential books in my lifetime. Before reading that book I thought that being a Christian meant that I was to ask Jesus into my heart to be forgiven, and then, when I died I'd go to heaven. This book showed me SO MUCH! When Jesus Christ comes to live and reign in my life, He begins a process on the inside to bring me to be more like Jesus NOW. He brings a new QUALITY of life here! The Holy Spirit comes to be my Teacher and as I am immersed in the scriptures (discovering what God is showing me what to be and do with His enabling), there come adventures day by day--living illustrations of the reality of being a Christian NOW and then, getting to be with Him after this life is over. NO COMPARISON to the works-related religion of my past!
Russell Laviolette5 Stars Out Of 5December 28, 2008Russell LavioletteThis book has had an amazing impact on my life. I bought it nearly a year ago and recently purchased it for a friend for Christmas. Within in the year of my owning the book I must have read it at least 4 times. I read alot of books that are theologically "deep" and while this book has that aspect, it also has alot of practical truths that can be applied the first time you read the book. Purchase this book and I promise you will not regret it. Follow the example of Hudson Taylor and other saints of God and learn that Christianity is more about being as opposed to doing. God bless and enjoy!
