Profiling the Bible's most significant figures, MacArthur's rich blend of teaching and inspiration drawn from his best-selling books offers daily encouragement as you strive to follow Christ. THE LOVE OF TRUTH

We should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head- - Christ. - EPHESIANS 4:14-15

The way John wrote was a reflection of his personality.
Truth was his passion, and he went to great lengths to present truth clearly. He wrote in black-and-white, absolute, certain terms, and he wasted no ink coloring in all the gray areas. He gave rules of thumb without listing all the exceptions. He left it to Paul to help us deal with exceptions and help us recover from failure. John always wrote with a warm, personal, pastoral tone-a reflection of his transformed character-but what he wrote doesn't make for soothing reading. How appropriate that his gentle manner of stating the truth should be so challenging without being harsh.
One can be uncompromising-even passionately so-while retaining a gentle manner. And how much more effective the message! As you represent Jesus Christ to those who might be hostile to spiritual truth, follow John's example. His message is clear, passionate, and uncompromising, but permeated with love.
