"Hope for the Troubled Heart page 3"
Hebrews 11:1 states. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hope that is founded on the Word of God is not mere sentimentality. It's as solid as the Rock of Ages. Hope is faith putting out its hand in the dark with absolute confidence. When the storms of life are raging, when winds and waves pound your soul, when tragedy strikes and darkness surrounds you, when failure seizes you by the throat, lay hold of the hope that is the anchor of your soul. In pagan cultures, hope is not considered a virtue; it is an evil to be shunned. In Buddhism, for example, hope is regarded as a deceiver and a betrayer. The same was true of the Mediterranean world when Jesus Christ began His earthly ministry. The Greeks and the Romans did not tempt themselves with hope. They wanted nothing to do with what they considered to be foolish delusions. Then came Jesus of Nazareth, standing before the multitudes on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, saying, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you"(Matt. 6:33). In His message, people found hope for a better life. When the message of God’s Word is delivered and obeyed, a nation’s standard of living rises, and people are inspired to hope. Where the message of God's Word had been rejected, a nation and its people live in poverty, disease, and utter hopelessness.
