October 4th - Day 278
I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me. - Philippians 4:13
I don't think Paul spoke this verse with naked literalness, as in: "I can run a mile in six seconds." He was saying, "I can do whatever God calls me to do through Christ who strengthens me."
The context of Philippians 4:13 has something specific in mind. Paul was saying, "I can maintain a good attitude even in difficulty through Christ who strengthens me. Even here in my prison cell in want and destitution, I can be content. I have learned the secret of being content—whether well-fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me."
We don't need to stay angry, depressed, embittered, bereaved, anxious, or alarmed. We can have joy, contentment, and inner restfulness through Him who strengthens us with a good disposition.
Jesus, I have given myself up to Thy service.
The question with me is where shall I serve Thee? I learn
from Thy word it is Thy holy pleasure that the Gospel be
preached in all the world. My desire is, 0 Lord, to engage
where laborers are most wanted. Perhaps one part of the
field is more difficult than another. I am equally unfit for
any, but through Thy strengthening me, I can do all things.
0 Lord, guide me in this.
