"For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. " - —Ecclesiastes 7:20
What doctor, anxious to heal a sick person, would prescribe medicine according to the patient’s whims and not according to medical necessity? The Lord came as the physician of the sick, saying, “They that are whole need not a physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Then how can the sick be strengthened, or how can sinners come to repentance? Is it by continuing in the same direction? Or is it by undergoing a great change and reversing their former mode of living, which brought them much sickness and many sins? But ignorance, the mother of all these sins, is driven out by knowledge. As a result, the Lord would disclose knowledge to His disciples. It was also His practice to heal those who were suffering and to keep sinners from sin. Therefore, through knowledge He didn’t address his listeners according to their fresh ideas and He didn’t respond in harmony with the opinion of His questioners. Instead, He spoke according to the doctrine that leads to salvation, without hypocrisy or respect of person.
