"MAY 16"

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. - HEBREWS 13:2

In biblical times-and today in many parts of the world-anyone who came to the door was given food and drink for the journey. The next house or town was often far away, and entertaining strangers could save their lives.
This isn't something we feel safe doing today. We don't even open the door to strangers, let alone entertain them. So how are we supposed to keep this command?
One way is to join a group effort, such as working at a food bank or soup kitchen. Doing volunteer work at a nursing home or hospital is another option.
There are also individual ways to help--little acts of kindness. You can check up on elderly neighbors once in a while, perhaps offer to run errands or mow their lawn. You can give way to another driver or step out of line at the supermarket and allow someone to go ahead of you. None of these actions puts you in danger, but they are all forms of entertaining strangers.

Father, show me how I can be helpful to others in little ways that count.
