"MAY 14"
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? - MATTHEW 6:27
With a closet full of clothes, we worry about not having the right thing to wear. With a cupboard full of food, there's still nothing to eat. These are minor worries not based on fact, but they nag at us until we go out and buy the "right" clothes or cram the cupboard with enough food to feed a small nation.
Many people have more legitimate worries-actual needs that consume every waking moment in a struggle for survival. What's amazing is that many of these people are still happy, despite their problems. How do they do it? Perhaps they've read a little further in Matthew 6, where Jesus promised, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (verse 33).
Worry wastes time because it produces nothing, while seeking God and His kingdom is always a worthwhile activity banish trivial worries and provide us with whatever we need.
Father, I know the food and clothing will be there when I need them if I concentrate on living righteously and don’t let my worries paralyze me. Times may get tough, but I can make it with Your help.
