"MAY 12"

She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is roftable, and her lamp does not go out at nigh ... Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. - PROVERBS 31:17-18, 31

Although this woman works herself to the bone, she's quite successful for her time, and the verse says she deserves to be praised at the city gate, which is where the village elders sat and governed.
No, society was not particularly good to women in those days, but it couldn't ignore this one. It paid her the reward she had earned. That's about all anyone-male or female-can ask for today, too. Those who work hard and live righteous lives should be praised by the elders at the gate (or in the classroom), whether they are men or women.

Lord, I can’t begin to compare to this woman who never seems to sleep, but I do work pretty hard and would like a little recognition, too. When I have a really bad day and am feeling unappreciated, remind me that even when people don’t appreciate me I still have Your love.
