Meet Oliver North

Retired U.S. Marine Oliver North is a man of many trades and talents. A Vietnam veteran, North was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts during his 22 years of service in the Marine Corps. He was later assigned to the National Security Council during the Reagan administration. While serving on the Council, North was the United States government’s Counter-Terrorism coordinator from 1983-1986. During this time, he was involved in the planning of the rescue of 804 medical student on the Island of Grenada, and played a large role in the capture of hijackers on the cruise ship Achille Lauro.

North is also a syndicated newspaper columnist, speaker, small business founder, an inventor with 3 U.S. patents, the host of “Common Sense Radio,” and the television program, “War Stories.” His foundation, Freedom Alliance, provides scholarships for the children of service members who have been killed in action.

Although North had written two prior books, Under Fire which answers questions about “Iran Contra” and other events during his time on the National Security Council, and One More Mission, about his tour of duty in 1968 and visit in 1993 to Vietnam, he has recently added the role of novelist to his many positions. His first novel, Mission Compromised, features Lt. Col. Peter Newman of the U.S. Marine Corps. In this book, Newman joins the National Security Council and is given the following assignment—go to the Middle East and find a way to assassinate both Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. When things go drastically wrong, Newman races to discover who sabotaged his mission and why. In his upcoming book, The Jericho Sanction, North continues the story of Peter Newman. While preparing for a mission to find Iraqi nuclear weapons, Newman’s wife Rachel and her friend, the wife of an Israeli Sayeret counter-terrorism operative responsible for Israeli terrorist assassinations, are kidnapped. Now Newman is faced with the choice of forging ahead with the mission or abandoning it to rescue his wife.

Oliver North lives in Illinois. He is married and has four children.
