Meet Patricia Hickman
Patricia Hickman is an award-winning novelist, speaker, pastor’s wife, and mother of three fairly normal children and one slightly giddy Golden Retriever.
She accepted Christ at age thirteen after riding a church bus to a local fellowship in her hometown. Her newfound faith was misunderstood by her dysfunctional family and eventually resulted in abuse from her father who despised churches and organized religion. Taking a mixture of faith and familial baggage into her marriage, Patricia struggled to find fulfillment as a woman. Ten years into her marriage, she reached a crossroads—-she knew that she had areas of her life that she had not surrendered completely to God. Her husband had reached the same crossroads. Together they renewed their commitment to God and to their family, established a family altar, and then accepted the call to ministry. "Once we walked through that open door of God’s perfect will, we never ceased to be amazed at how the Lord actually wanted us to see our desires and dreams fulfilled. After all, He had placed them inside of us. Randy is now pastor of a church he founded in Huntersville, North Carolina near Charlotte. God paved the way for me to become a published Christian novelist. I am now working on my tenth novel which I’m writing for Women of Faith. Additionally, He has led me to birth a speaking ministry to women called ‘Simply Joy!’. Although I wandered around in such a miserable state for so many years, I see God’s hand in even that—He used my pain and struggle to build His kind of character, shaping me so that I could stand as a tempered vessel, purified as only He can purify and wholly able to glorify Him in every area of my life."
Her historical Australian series, Land of the Far Horizons, garnered two Silver Angel Awards for Excellence in Media. Katrina’s Wings, is a Romantic Times top pick and and is receiving high praise from readers, critics, and numerous authors. Affair de Coeur magazine gave her first novel, Voyage of the Exiles, a Four-Star review. The West Coast Review of Books describes her writing as "Graceful and sweeping, a romantic adventure that coasts along at a swift pace." The Family Bookshelf’s book club says of her earliest writing: "Patricia Hickman’s first major work is a tour de force –- combining true history with skillfully written fiction. This is no easy feat!" Romantic Times offers a Four-Star rating for The Treasure Seekers and says, "A lush backdrop, engaging subplot, and her character’s predicament make this a delicious novel with an epic flavor." The magazine says of Katrina’s Wings "In this beautifully written novel, the author explores this deepest of familial relationships (sisterhood). She mixes tender romance with a coming of age story to create a memorable novel. An excellent read!" Hickman is one of four authors selected to pioneer a new women’s fiction line for the Women of Faith conferences. Her more recent works include Sandpebbles, which was written for Women of Faith fiction; The Touch, and Fallen Angels, first in the Millwood Hollow Series.
