Try a creative approach to homeschooling! The
unit study teaching method selects a theme or
topic-a unit of study-and explores it in depth
over a period of time, integrating the various
disciplines of language arts and literature,
history and geography, science, math and the arts
where applicable. This method enables you to
create exciting, memorable courses of study that
reflect your family's specific interests and
religious heritage. This flexible approach allows
you additional freedom, enabling you to be
particularly open to God's direction as you plan
your child's course of study. It allows children
of different ages to learn together. Studying one
topic intensely stimulates curiosity and makes
learning natural and memorable because the
disciplines are integrated, as compared to
studying several unrelated subjects. A unit study
on electricity, for example, could include
science experiments with electric circuits,
reading a biography of Thomas Edison, writing a
report about the history of our use of
electricity and its impact on the environment,
learning relevant spelling and vocabulary words,
discussing God the Creator as author of the laws
of nature, visiting an electric power plant, or
even doing the math calculations on your electric
bill! The possibilities are as unlimited as your
imagination. Visit our Unit Studies
page for some creative inspiration and spice up
your homeschool! | Unit Studies Page |
