With Walk On, 4Him ends their three year vacation from original material, with vocalist Mark Harris co-writing all 12 tunes. (Hymns: A Place Of Worship released in 2000, preceded by a greatest hits project in 1999.) The latest project in a 10-album discography also marks a different record label for the first time in 4Him's 11-year history. But little else has changed. In fact, Walk On takes a deeper look at the very same topic addressed with 4Him's first radio single, "Where There Is Faith," back in 1990. "Psalm 112" states, "God is good to those who live by faith." Two songs later, "Walk On" follows up with "I chose to take this road called Faith." "I Know You Now" approaches from a different angle: "I looked at faith. I almost walked away, but I looked again." "This Is My Declaration" goes for the direct approach: "Jesus, I'm trusting you." Finally, "One Foot in the Water" addresses the issue of straddling the fence on faith, while "The Waiting" speaks of staying strong as a believer while waiting on God to act. 4Him fans like fundamental lyrics, lots of vocal harmony, and polished pop productions. 4Him believes in satisfying their fans, and as Kirk Sullivan says, "When our fans buy a 4Him record, we want them to know the sound they are going to hear." Walk On certainly fills that requirement, and the thematic undertones are a bonus to those looking for a little more. --David Bruce Murray |
