Product Description

In this extraordinary book, devout Christian and internationally acclaimed speaker, author and sports executive Pat Williams reveals the pure essence of Jesus. Christianity teaches that Jesus is God, yet most people lose sight of His humanity. Through the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Williams helps us understand who Jesus really was-His mind, His wisdom, His love, His humility, His courage and His goodness. The story of Jesus' life is told powerfully and dramatically and the meaning of His teachings is compellingly brought home through contemporary stories of people who exemplify what it means to be like Jesus. The Jesus of this book is truly the Jesus who lived and identified with us and with whom we also can identify. Williams provides persuasive and provocative insight on how to truly be like Jesus through His teachings and His living example of genuine love, forgiveness, prayer, obedience, service, humility, integrity, leadership, and more.

HOW TO BE LIKE JESUS by Pat Williams is one of the best written, most interesting, most informative, and most helpful books I have ever read. The author stresses the idea that no one can be "like Jesus" but that everyone can become "more like Jesus." This book should be slowly and thoroughly read and digested. Out of the 18 chapters in the book, the last one, "How to Conquer Like Jesus," is the weakest. The author implies that eventually Peter learned and matured and became a strong apostle. He failed to mention that Peter's personality and courage dramatically and instantly changed on the day of Pentecost; and that this change was the result of the power of the Holy Spirit that entered the life of Peter. This book helps explain the Bible and the challenges that Jesus presented. The author paraphrases much of the scripture he quotes, and at times I compared what he said with several versions of the Bible, doubting that he was interpreting the scriptures correctly. Nevertheless, in most cases, I concluded that Williams either had a more accurate interpretation than I had acquired or that his interpretation was at least possibly correct. Only once or twice did I end up disagreeing with his views. Each chapter is devoted to a particular virtue of Jesus. For example, "How to Have Integrity Like Jesus" and "How to Be Humble Like Jesus." The chapter on "How to Serve Like Jesus" illuminates the importance of serving--even in everyday circumstances--and it compelled me to completely change my attitude about the value of serving. Although the chapter on "How to Die Like Jesus" did not inspire me to want to be crucified, it was the most realistic and heart-rending description I have ever read on the death of Jesus. It also included historical information about crucifixions that I was not aware of. I not only recommend this book, but I urge all Christians to read it.
