Another big focus in Horizons is hands-on learning using a variety of manipulatives, which can mostly be found around the house: pencils, pipe cleaners, play or real money, thread, a timer, clock, yardstick, etc.
Novice home-educators should not be intimidated by the amount of teacher involvement as it is carefully layed out in the beginning of each year's teacher handbook. The teacher handbook also provides a variety of teaching suggestions and supplemental activities for additional practice.
The concepts covered in Horizons 4 include:
- Multiplication of 2-digit Times 2-digit with Carrying
- Division with 2-digit Divisor and Quotient
- Addition/Subtraction of Unlike Fractions
- Pre-Algebra Concepts
- and More

PattonAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5September 22, 2011PattonAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I have used Horizons math for the past four years. My daughter loves it. My husband and I considered using a different curriculum this year and my daughter was adament that we use Horizons. The 4th grade workbook seems more colorful and seems to have more "fun" activities to apply the concepts they have learned. In the past, we seemed to get a bit bogged down with review, but this year it seems so much better. My daughter couldn't wait for the new school year so she could see what she was going to learn in her Horizons math book. She loves math and I think it is partly because of this curriculum.
Dawn Tanis5 Stars Out Of 5May 6, 2010Dawn TanisHorizons math for K-6th grade has been the best math program I have ever worked with. Th way each lesson reviews past concepts and then introduces new material is an effective learning method! Love it!

LisaM53055 Stars Out Of 5August 7, 2008LisaM5305If your child likes math, you will love this curriculum. Very colorful and engaging. It does move fast so be prepared to spend some time on extra practice if needed. Very thorough, too. We used Horizons for a few years then used Saxon for 3rd grade. What a mistake. We're definitely going back to Horizons.
Suzanne Eversole5 Stars Out Of 5March 7, 2008Suzanne EversoleI like Horizons math for my 8 year old boy, we also used this math in the 3rd grade. My son gets bored easily and the colorful pages and constant review help.
