We both love it. It is challenging but it incorporates multiple exercises so that he doesn't get overwhelmed. We will be using Horizons next year!

They are colorful but not distracting or full of sensory overload. I have seen some workbooks that are to full and overwhelming. I am planning on using these up to the 3rd grade and then switching to Saxon in the 4th grade and so far these have been an exellent math workbook preparing her for her older years.

At the end of the week there is a test. The next week starts off with the same material a bit harder and harder or it will add a new topic.
Roanna Weilmeier5 Stars Out Of 5November 15, 2010Roanna WeilmeierQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5My 7 year old son LOVES math! Horizons math has been perfect for him, as it has cute colored pictures and moves along at a quicker pace. He excels at Gr. 3 level multiplication/division tables, and so finding that in a level 2 book is great. I do think, unfortunately, that for the average Gr. 2 child, the Horizons Math would be too difficult ... but if you have a math lover, then this is the book series for you!
Q: Do you feel that buying the teacher's manual is essential, or could this be taught without it? Looking to avoid that purchase if possible. Thanks!
The actual lessons are in the Teachers Guide, the Student book just has workbook pages with very basic instructions.
