I am so glad I purchased the Horizons Math 2. I bought it for my daughter who is in Grade 2. It's challenging enough for her yet not frustrating, because the concept is repeated in many lessons.

I would recommend this math curriculum.

My son has used Horizons Math for the last two years and has done very well with it. And he wants to use Horizons 3 for next year! My son (age 7 when using Math 2) likes the varied exercises and the colorful pages and pictures. The workbook introduces new concepts in such a way that he is able to read and do the work with little help from me. The relatively short lessons are nice so he deosn't get too bogged down. Since this was the second year using Horizons, I made a few tweaks and decided the teacher handbook was a bit bulky for our needs. (Lots of teaching guidance and extra worksheets are included.) Others, however, may like it for the tips and suggestions on teaching and more hands-on learning. All in all, we have been pleased with Horizons!

    Horizons Math Grade 2

My husband and I both have employment backgrounds which are based on mathematical concepts. So when choosing a math program for our home school we utilized the following criteria:

    1. The mathematical concepts had to be in a precept format, with the reviewing of concepts already learned for reinforcement.

    2. The program had to be parent/child friendly.

    3. The program had to engage our child in the world of mathematics.

After looking at three of the most popular homeschooling math curricula on the market, we chose Alpha Omega's Horizons Math.

Horizons Math Grade 2 scope and sequence is comprised of the following:

    Counting 1-999

    Sets

    Number Order

    Addition

    Correspondence of Quantities

    Place Value

    Subtraction

    Time

    Fractions

    Money

    Sequence

    Multiplication

    Shapes

    Calendar

    Graphs

    Measurement

    Temperature

    Estimation

    Ration

    Area, Perimeter, & Volume

    Decimals

Horizons Math utilizes the spiraling philosophy to teach math. Spiraling means the student will cover the same topics several years in a row, advancing them slightly on each pass. Our child has utilized Horizons Math from Kindergarten through Algebra 1. Horizons Math has provided them with a firm mathematical foundation which will serve them well throughout their lifetime. I give this math curriculum an A+!

I would highly recommend this math program. My daughter does not like math yet she is doing VERY well with this program. The "multi-tasking" works well for her. Each section is just long enough for her to get it but not too long that she dreads it. She also likes the colorful pages. I also like the worksheets which help for extra practice. I plan to use Horizons for all my children.

I like this material. It is a little more challenging than the average material. For my child who is a little advanced in Math. This is a good product.
