tabitha4 Stars Out Of 5September 19, 2010tabithaI raced straight into book two after falling in love with book one, Love's Rescue, which was wonderful! It was great to be back in the company of friends--I always love a good series and things at the ranch are exciting and fast paced as always. I am amazed at how the author can keep page after page after page so interesting. Tammy Barley must do a huge amount of research for her writing because every last detail is authentic. She will have you running the full range of emotions; sorrow, laughter, anger and joy. This is so much more than "just another romance".God's message is also once again woven into the story line in an uplifting way that will leave you feeling full of faith. The basic premise of the story is that Jess and Jake continue to struggle to keep the ranch and their dreams alive. Jess secretly struggles with her inability to conceive a child while Jake worries over her mysterious sadness that is creating a distance between their hearts. At the same time everyone's life is in danger from unknown attackers who especially want Jess dead. The end of the book reveals some surprising truths about who has been responsible for many of these threats. It was a shocker!I gave book one 5 stars and though this was also an excellent read, I did find a little trouble with Jess hiding the truth behind her sorrow. She sometimes seems too self centered like one reviewer mentioned and this made her harder to relate to.Book one was full of the romance of Jake and Jess falling in love, which is always such a thrill and I think I was missing that "rush" this time around.I still recommend it as a beautiful story you won't regret reading.Though I'm sure it could stand alone I think you'd regret not being able to read book one-it was fantastic!
Connie Jennings5 Stars Out Of 5August 25, 2010Connie JenningsReally good book , the first book was great and this one is very enjoyable to read. Jake and Jess trying to raise horses, and their fighting draughts. They are finally happy, and now Jake's sick. What will happen in book 3.
adrienne5 Stars Out Of 5August 1, 2010adrienneThe beginning seemed slow paced but the overall book did not disappoint. The characters, the setting, the rich descriptions, all made for a very wonderful read. I enjoyed Hope's Promise, and I recommend it for anyone wanting a rugged, endearing read set in the Western Nevada Territory in 1864. Jess is a strong character and she has her flaws, but she proved more than capable of doing what was for the best, even if that meant sometimes backing down.
Stephanie4 Stars Out Of 5July 24, 2010StephanieHope's Promise is the continuing story of Jessica and Jake from Love's Rescue, book one in the Sierra Chronicles.Jake wants only to offer protection and love to Jessica, who has suffered and lost so much, but she is becoming silently depressed and bitter over her inability to have a baby. When they discover that a friend of Jessica's family isn't who they thought she was, they face betrayal, danger, and more. Will Jake and Jessica be able to stand together and trust God for a bright future?MY THOUGHTS:Hope's Promise wasn't my favorite book. I read book one, Love's Rescue, and I think I was 'done' with the story before I could begin book two. I really couldn't put my finger on it. The stories were good enough. There was plenty of action and excitement. The detail of ranch life and descriptions of the mountains and other surroundings were great.I think I finally realized that Jessica just rubbed me the wrong way. She was a very strong character - but, to me, I found her too strong-willed and stubborn for me to 'cozy' up to. Even though Jessica, no doubt, suffered more than most people, she seemed selfish and disrespectful to Jake, which turned me off.Despite that, I'd still recommend Tammy's Sierra Chronicles to those who enjoy prairie/ranch-type books.***Special thanks to Tammy and Whitaker House, through FIRST, for sending me a review copy.***
A J Hawke5 Stars Out Of 5July 21, 2010A J HawkeJake is a great hero. Jessica is a wonderful heroine and HOPES PROMISE is an exciting western historical romance with a mystery thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed this story and enjoyed Tammy Barleys ability to describe the settings, characters, and events. Usually I can figure out the ending but this one caught me by surprise. Very satisfying. I recommend HOPES PROMISE by Tammy Barley.
