Home Art Studio homeschool art curriculum DVDs are designed to increase students' love and appreciation for the visual arts while providing an opportunity to improve their abilities to problem-solve, think creatively, and express themselves artistically. Art history lessons are also integrated throughout, as well as cross-curricular suggestions for math and social studies. Students are introduced to drawing, painting, and sculpting, while lessons emphasize how art is everywhere.
Just one lesson per week will allow you to complete the program in less than a year. You simply need to provide the supplies! Lesson plan PDF documents are included on the DVD-ROM to help teachers make the most of each lesson-time. Easy-to-follow lessons are age-appropriate and concepts are reinforced in later grades; students may work at their own pace without any fear of falling behind. This program is perfect for parents who don't have a lot of art experience, but who want to ensure that their children receive a well-rounded arts education.
Second grade students will follow Ms. Volin on a magical adventure into the land of fairy tales! Each of the 18 lessons on this DVD is based on fairy tales from around the world. Students will learn the principles and elements of art while creating projects that focus on pattern, overlapping, texture, and portraiture.
188 minutes on DVD-ROM. Grade 2.

The backgrounds are decorative but not too distracting from the instructor.
I am pleased with the variety of techniques and art terms the instructor incorporates in each level. I feel as though my kids are receiving private art lessons but at a fraction of the cost!
Selfishly, I love the DVD-based lessons because it doesn't require me to teach! :) We usually watch a lesson all the way through once, then replay it and pause after each step so my child can do their own project correctly.
The DVD is designed to play in a normal DVD player for each lesson. It is also designed to be inserted in your computer for you to view/print the PDF file of all the lessons. Each lesson contains a picture of the completed project, supply list, directions and extra information/art definitions. I didn't feel the need to print it, since it's easy to read on the computer.
The supplies were easy to find and fairly inexpensive to purchase at our local craft store.
My only "complaint" is that there are not more lessons on each DVD. I'd love to see enough lessons (30-36) to do one each week of our school year.
