After reading this book, I am convinced that Karen Armstrong has a very poor understanding of Christianity. Throughout the book she affirms the West has been blinded by Crusading ideology since the first Crusade. However, I think it is more accurate that Armstrong is blinded and can only see the West through Crusade-colored glasses. Armstrong presents the idea that the Spanish Inquisition was the result of hatred of Jews and Muslims. She also affirms, on multiple occassions, that Western support of Israel occupying the Holy Land is a modern Crusade against Islam. This books is very one-sided and does a poor job of supporting the many claims that the West is still on a Crusade against the "House of Islam."

Interestingly, I was looking for a Christian perspective on The Crusades shopping at CHRISTIANbook.com. This was not written from a Christian perspective nor do I think it was written from a very accurate historical perspective. $17.00 in the trash.
