For Mr. Bilbo Baggins visited various notable persons; conversed with the dragon, Smaug the Magnificent; and was present, rather unwillingly, at the Battle of the Five Armies. This is all the more remarkable, since he was a hobbit. Hobbits have hitherto been passed over in history and legend, perhaps because they as a rule preferred peace and quiet to excitement. But his account, based on his personal memoirs, of the one exciting year in the otherwise quiet life of Mr. Bilbo Baggins will give you a fair idea of the estimable people now (it is said) becoming rather rare.

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.
Written for J.R.R. Tolkien's own children, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies worldwide and established itself as a modern classic.
"A flawless masterpiece." The Times of London

CMRAge: 35-44Gender: male4 Stars Out Of 5December 16, 2009CMRAge: 35-44Gender: maleAdventure, wonderful characters, and several poems, make The Hobbit a book worth reading. Though not necessarily a Christian book, The Hobbit is still clean and could easily be enjoyed by Christians of all ages. The story is about Bilbo, your average hobbit. Loves comfort, doesn't care for adventures, and likes to have more than 3 meals a day. So when Gandalf attempts to send him off on an adventure, Biblo trys to politely refuse. Still, Gandalf sends 13 dwarves to hire Biblo for a certain mission- to be their burglar and to jourey with them to take back a huge treasure that once belonged to their ancestors. Reluctanly, Biblo agrees, and discovers just how uncomfortable adventures really are. And so begins and adventure that will be talked about by hobbits in the Shire for years to come. From Smaug's lair, to having a contest of riddles with Gollum, to battling giant spiders in Mirkwood, The Hobbit is an adventure not to missed out on.

YO5 Stars Out Of 5December 7, 2006YOThis is the greatest book I have ever read. I have read this book twice in the same year. I love the creative mind of J.R.R Tolkien.
L.N.Brito5 Stars Out Of 5January 15, 2002L.N.BritoThis is a masterpiece. The Hobbit comes right before The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. In this story the reader is taken to a complete different world full of magic and wonder. At the same there is the conflict between goodness and evilness. Worth reading.
