Easy-to-use lessons are arranged chronologically by region, with three "Timeline Timeouts" designed to help students synthesize the chronological events on their timeline. Lessons are designed for parents to guide students through the study, and include checkboxes for the day's reading, assignments, and activities. The Middle Ages covers monks, the Byzantine Empire, Danes, the Holy Roman Empire, Knights, Castles, the Crusades, the War of the Roses, the Pacifc Islands, Native North Americans, Shakespeare, and more.
This Level 1 guide is designed for students in grades 1-4, who are in the classical "grammar" stage of education. Full of engaging activities that tell history as an exciting story, Level 1 utilizes many activities that provide a hands-on experience through craft projects, art projects, cooking, and coloring. A keepsake book final project is also included.
43 lessons plus 18 reproducible maps. Loose-leaf pages with cover sheet. Reproducible for home use only. Grades 1-4. Following a 1-2 hours/3 days a week schedule will cover a 36-week school year.

OliviaWherever the Army sends us.Age: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent resource for teachingSeptember 5, 2013OliviaWherever the Army sends us.Age: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5I am absolutely thrilled with this curriculum. The reading assignments were engaging for my girls (2nd & 4th). We loved doing the suggested projects to round out our week. The level one book lays out the lesson for each week plus additional books, and there's a handy calendar list to plan the year out by just writing in the dates you'll be working on each lesson.
Some of the additional resource books have been difficult to find, but I think that's because we don't have a large library. We are fortunate to be able to purchase at least one of the additional books from used bookstores if it's not available at our library.
Overall I'm thrilled with these programs and have purchased the next book in the series.
AimeeKansasAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Awesome classical history curriculum!!April 12, 2012AimeeKansasAge: 35-44Gender: femaleI have used History Odyssey through Pandia Press for 3 years. I have never been disappointed! I have 4 boys, the oldest two have used level 1 from Ancients through Early Modern so far and we all look forward to the lessons. It's not just reading great history...there are projects you can do to solidify the lessons, mapwork, and a list of additional books if you want to delve deeper.
The curriculum for level 1 uses Usborne Internet-Linked Science Encyclopedia, The Story of the World, and A Child's History of the World as spines. There are a few other additional books that are required (real books, not textbooks!). I will be starting my 1st grade son on Ancients this fall and the older two will be starting Modern level 1.
I cannot say enough good things about this curriculum. I am so happy that CBD will now be selling History Odyssey...
