Thirty-four chapters each include five daily lessons which take approximately 20-30 minutes each. A short reading is followed by critical thinking questions; an exam is given on the last day of the week. Background information, Bloom's Taxonomy-based questions, concepts, biographical sketches, historical debate updates, worldview notes, and history overview components work together to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of historiographical material from a Christian perspective.
Lessons are one-page and easy-to-read with black-and-white photographs integrated throughout; critical thinking assignments are given in the bottom corner. This student book contains only the lesson summaries and assignments.272 pages with timeline, softcover.
Organized by chapter and lesson, the assignment questions are repeated with the suggested correct answers underneath in the World History Teacher's Guide. An exam key, often comprised of two questions and answers, is also provided for Day 5 of each week. Chapter exams (the same exams given for day 5 throughout the book) are all listed in the back with point values assigned for each. 192 pages, softcover.

I scanned the writing questions and thought that I would be happy with the curriculum. Now that we are a week into using it, I have decided that we will not continue. Not only does it not include enough information to be considered a high school text, it doesn't even give the information to answer the writing assignments.

Every year, since the boys were tiny - if I looked at 1 or more learning levels ahead - I would get overwhelmed. In 2nd grade I couldn't stomach 4th grade math. For the entire time, I've been intimidated by older grade texts. Looking at long lists of test questions and essay suggestions makes me want to take a coffee break. I see where the boys are now, and think, will they? Will they be able to do that later? How???
I read the first few lessons and got REALLY excited. For one, it's chapters follow the sequence of our Art History for Jon and Nate. We are in Egypt so we are not very far behind in the book. The lessons are quite short, but detailed. Jon is reading from DK type books, which Nate has already browsed in earlier years, so it Thrills Me to no end to find a High School Level History Book written from a Creation Beginning point of view that is easy to digest. (Preview) What? Did I just say easy to digest? This book is intended for 10th to 12th grades. We are also working on 10th grade Biology and I made the remark yesterday - is this supposed to be this easy? Ha! They ARE able to do it. Nine years of building blocks, and our structure is firm, built on a foundation of The Word.
And that is why this text is important. As I've shared before, we don't mind so much if the author pulls things back to millions of years - but it how much of the text are you supposed to trust if the perspective is off? As I mentioned above, the boys have asked a lot of questions, great questions, but how to teach history if they doubt the text so much?
We are thankful for companies like Master Books at New Life Publishing for publishing great learning tools with the Bible at it's core as the plumb line for truth. Clear objectives, Challenging assignments - "This study will help students learn Objectives, develop a Christian worldview while forming his or her own understanding of world history trends, philosophies, and events."
So far - 4 chapters into the book, caught up with Egypt - starting week 9 of History and Art this year - it has been my favorite learning year ever. But you hear me say that every year. Have I mentioned how much I love getting to learn with my boys - love being a homeschooler lately? I do. I really do.
We are using this text as a resource to give a deeper understanding while studying Ancient Art Forms. We have been using it with a Charlotte Mason Style with Narrations both verbal and written in Nate's Ancient Notebook. The text has been easy for him to read and understand, and he has related many of the topics to what we have already learned. Nate is 14, 9th grade level, and enjoys to book. This is intended as a stand alone History Textbook - but, as you know, we don't approach Subjects as Stand Alone.

In addition to apologetic and creation materials, they provide select courses for homeschool. This resource comes with a student book and a teacher volume. James Stobaugh, a pastor and homeschool Dad, wrote the material.
The books are attractive, lavishly illustrated with black and white photos, and fairly priced. The lessons are of manageable length and are for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Assignments include essay questions and exams. It really encourages the critical thinking that our children need. The teachers guide leads the parent quite easily through what is, in many cases, forgotten subject matter. This style will be good to transition to college type of instruction.
Our children really need quality world history while in high school. I feel that is a lack in my own education. I have to brush up on world history, and particularly Western Civilization, at times. I feel the shortcomings. I feel I did a lot better in American History, but that's only a little over 200 years of history. It's the train of world history that led to America and so we need the proper perspective. We need the bigger picture.
Best of all, with this resource we get history from a thoroughly Christian outlook. This is of the same quality as other Master Book materials and I highly recommend it. The Reagan children will all be getting a turn with it when the time comes.

Engaging, fascinating, and well written. A history book that really caught and kept my attention. I have struggled with finding a good curriculum for World History, because often even the Christian ones would stress evolution as a fact, which would instantly tune me out. But this course relates history in an anything but dry way focusing on making the student comprehend what they are learning and there isn't any evolution!
This text book includes Bible accounts as history and not only gives a history of many civilizations but a study on what their worldviews were and America's beliefs today. It effortlessly expresses a solid Christian worldview. I also liked how the assignments focused on making sure that I understood what I had just read instead of tons of questions and tests.
Overall a book that I would highly recommend for homeschoolers. This course covers from Mesopotamia to present day, I loved how it worked on cultivating a Christian worldview, so there was a lot on events that shaped how we live today. A wonderful that will grow your student's understanding of history and the world around us. I think this would be a great resource for students who, like me do a lot of reading and are already pretty well informed about history, but need to fill a few gaps. This course was perfect for me!

Stand tall, young people, and serve our LORD with alacrity and courage!" Okay, I have to be honest and tell you that James Stobaugh grabbed my heart with this dedication. YES, YES and YES! Stand TALL, young people and serve our LORD. That's what it is ALL about. That is why we study history -- so that we can Stand TALL and SERVE.
World History: Observations and Assessments from Creation to Today is a new history book written by James P. Stobaugh and published by Master Books (a division of New Leaf Publishing Group). Designed to encourage independence in students, students are responsible for completing all coursework and turning it in to be graded -- by themselves. How cool is that? Independence and excellence is exactly what I aim to be fostering in my high schooler as I prepare her for the college work that lies ahead.
The softcover student book has 288 pages which include a glossary and timeline. The 34 chapters begin with a study of Mesopotamia and end with a study of South Africa. Students study one chapter a week. That's 34 weeks of world history with 5 lessons per week. Each lesson will take between 20-30 minutes. On the last class day of the week, students take an exam that covers the chapter they've been studying. Exams include map labeling, some matching and mostly discussion questions. The discussion questions help prepare students for college and are reminiscent of the days of Blue Books required for tests. (Do you remember those? I sure do! I've been telling my girls all about the days of walking into a class with a blank Blue Book and not leaving until it was completely filled with all of the information I could recall.)
So what do I like about Mr. Stobaugh's World History (12th grade)? I really like the fact that this is not a rote memorization of facts, but calls for a deeper understanding of the material studied. Students are required to learn and be able to explain in essay format that which they've studied. It's not enough to study the night before, write down a bunch of answers and then promptly forget. Students are given the opportunity to study and learn and remember through the conversational tone of the book. Independent learning is stressed and students see GOD's HAND throughout history.
The softcover Teacher's Book has 144 pages and includes the answers to the student assignments found at the end of each day's reading. Chapter Tests are included in the Teacher's book and can be photocopied for students or can be downloaded and printed off of a website. Chapter Tests include matching, timeline and discussion questions.
Read the heart of the author and you'll understand how very much I like this book:
My prayer is that if you do not know this GOD who can change history -- even your history -- this history text might encourage you to invite JESUS CHRIST into your heart as SAVIOR.
I've said it before and I must say it again -- when the author loves GOD wholeheartedly and shares that love with my children, then I'm all in. This beautifully illustrated textbook will be a part of Long Leaf Academy for years to come. I look forward to studying the other two books available in this momentous series as well -- American History (10th grade) and British History (11th grade).
