The good news is this record gets better as it goes. The lead-off track, Time is Running Out, is unpromising, marred by flat vocals and a noodling guitar line that gets old fast. Similar issues bust up other tracks, and the projects production wants for a stronger low-end foundationmore intensity on those guitars, to make that hard-hitting impact. Up Above is a bit more memorable, a blending of nümetal and more accessible rock (think Disciple meets Sanctus Real). Declaration is over-familiar lyrically but more interesting still musically; Escaping is a big rockin power ballad, probably the catchiest song (but even it has a couple of dud lines). Loss For Words comes closest to achieving the edge theyre shooting for, a true power-stance rocker. Promising in spots? Sure. But theres many a scrappy band out there that could be said of. So, this is enjoyable in spots, but certainly not essential.
