Publisher's Description

As followers of Jesus, we call ourselves ôChristians,ö but the fact is this word only appears three times in the Bible. In the New Testament, youÆll find a host of terms that identify the followers of Jesus, but there is one metaphor used more frequently than any other. Slave.

ThatÆs right. The first Christians, having been galvanized by the words of Jesus, gave up everything and called themselves slaves of Christ. Now you can learn why this word best described early Christ-followersùand youÆll see how an understanding of this truth changes the way to follow Him now. This discovery will unveil the riches of your salvation in a radically new way.

Now you or your group can use this study guide to drill down through each major concept in Dr. John MacArthurÆs remarkable book Slave:

REWIND. Look again at the important passages.

RETHINK. Check all the angles.

REFLECT. Consider how it affects you.

REACT. Change your life.

The gospel is not simply an invitation to become ChristÆs associate or friendùit is a mandate to become His slave.

ôJohn MacArthur expertly and lucidly explains that Jesus frees us from bondage into a royal slavery that we might be His possession. Those who would be His children must, paradoxically, be willing to be His slaves.ö ùDR. R.C. SPROUL

ôIn this new book, John MacArthur presents a powerfully riveting and truly eye-opening look at our relationship to the Lord Jesus. Want to rise to a new level of trust and confidence in your Master? Then this is the book for you!ö ùJONI EARECKSON TADA, Joni and Friends International Disability Center

ôDr. John MacArthurÆs teaching on æslaveryÆ resonates in the deepest recesses of my æinner-manÆ. As an African-American pastor, I have been there. That is why the thought of someone writing about slavery as being a æGod-sendÆ was the most ludicrous, unconscionable thing that I could have ever imagined . . . until I read this book. Now I see that becoming a slave is a biblical command, completely redefining the idea of freedom in Christ. I donÆt want to simply be a æfollowerÆ or even just a æservantÆ . . . but a æslaveÆ.ö ùTHE REV. DR. DALLAS H. WILSON, JR., Vicar, St. JohnÆs Episcopal Chapel, Charleston, South Carolina

I have been using John MacArthur's materials for years now. His content is always spot-on. This book is no exception. He provides a wealth of background information about the Jewish nation and how slavery fit in with their lifestyle, as well as how slavery was viewed and accepted in Jesus' days. He carries that over skillfully into what it means for us to be slaves (doulos) of Jesus Christ. He also talks at length about the concept of adoption of slaves in the Roman Empire and the rights and freedoms that were associated with it, drawing parallels between that and our adoption by God as members of His family, co-heirs with Jesus Christ. I would highly recommend reading this book. The accompanying workbook leads the participants through each point that John is making and gives cause for some real soul-searching questions.

Great book to study and I would recommend it to every one who want to know the whole bible and learn more in depth of the scriptures. This was a great study, to really know how we should be in total submission to the Lord because it is no longer you who live, "U" live for Christ, His will you carry out (His Agenda not your own).
