I love all Hermie and friends dvds, but I was pretty disappointed in this dvd. It was a hodge-podge of past Hermie and friends dvds. The story line really didn't make any sense at all.

The story is about Freddie the Flea who is trying to understand if he is special in the eyes of God. His questions lead him to interview various characters who tell their stories in short flashbacks.

As a pastor, IÃ¢ÂÂm concerned about some of the theological implications. The first is that to pray the characters go outside and look up. God always responds verbally. Obviously one does not have to be outside to pray and God does not always respond verbally to prayer. My impression was that this seems to be a generic Ã¢ÂÂgod.Ã¢ÂÂ

Another concern is the Ã¢ÂÂdoes God love meÃ¢ÂÂ story line of a flea. Many children know fleas as undesirable creaturesÃ¢ÂÂ¦ and thatÃ¢ÂÂs the point of using a flea. However, the flashbacks do not really answer the question. I asked for feedback from the age group the video is targeted forÃ¢ÂÂ¦ I would add that these are also fans of the series. They were unimpressed with the story line and had questions that came from inadvertent false impressions left by the video.

I had one thought while watching this video: Ã¢ÂÂmake it stop!Ã¢ÂÂ The one redeeming feature of this video is found in the extrasÃ¢ÂÂ¦ it is a very clear and easy to understand gospel presentation. So how many buy a video for just one extra?

My 8 year-old enjoys Hermie very much. We are collecting them all one at a time. He enjoys the humor in each moral-infused story.

It was awhile after I received this movie from Thomas Nelson/Booksneeze that it ended up popped in my DVD player. My 3-year-old son continuously bypassed it on the shelf for other favourites, such as Thomas, Veggie Tales and the Wiggles. We finally got around to watching it and I think he enjoyed it well enough. The characters are pretty likable, the animation is vibrant and eye-catching, and the voices are well-casted. However, from the standpoint of someone who can actually follow a storyline, I am not a huge fan of this DVD. Let me start by saying that I think this is probably a really good series, and I definitely wouldn't count it out altogether. The problem I had was that this is the fifteenth episode in the series and the storyline relies very heavily on flashbacks. Being as I'm a total stranger to this series, having never heard of it before this review, I'm not even sure if the flashbacks are from previous episodes or not. But without knowing any of the characters mentioned in the flashbacks, it was difficult to follow. So, that being said, I am sure fans of the Hermie and Friends series will love this episode, and for those of you who are not yet familiar with the series, I would highly recommend starting with the first episode, Hermie: A Common Caterpillar.
