Henry Poole Is Here, DVD
The plot was okay, but there was a depressive atmosphere throughout the movie. This movie is not on my favorites list.

I watched this movie because I am a fan of Luke Wilson and was thrilled to find out that it was a movie about faith. The only reason anyone would think this movie is not about faith or is about idol worship is if they took it at face value without being paying attention to the deeper themes. Henry Poole is a young man who is told by his doctor that he is at the end of his life. He moves back to the neighborhood he grew up in to live out his last days in solitude, closing himself off from the world and from God. However, a persistent neighbor makes Henry's wallowing more difficult than he planned. Miracles begin to happen, and people flock to Henry's house, further disrupting his desire to die alone and miserable. His religious neighbor and her parish priest try to bring Henry back to God, but his heart is hardened to it all. Will Henry ever credit the miracles to God or continue to call them coincidences? Will he open up to his neighbors and accept the help and love they are trying to offer? And furthermore, will Henry let go of his anger over his childhood? This film features great acting, light-hearted humor, heavy human emotions, and a beautiful soundtrack. It grapples with topics that each of us face in our everyday life. I saw it at a time in my life when I was especially dealing with the same emotions as Henry, and even as I was still watching the film it became one of my all-time favorite movies that I constantly recommend to family and friends. This is a must-see for every Christian who has ever dealt with doubt, fear, or pain--and that is all of us.

Henry Poole is Here is a movie about a guy who struggles with things we all do - faith, doubt, the meaning of life, relationships, etc. It's a perfect family film and encourages you to have a little faith.

If you missed this film the first time around, I encourage you to check out the recently released family version. I absolutely loved this movie! It was such a great story about a real life guy who was struggling with his faith and accepting it. This is something that I've been struggling with myself for the past couple of years. It was such an encouragement to see this played out. If you haven't seen the movie yet, or even if you have, you could always give it to a friend, but it's definitely worth checking out! PERFECT for a FAMILY movie night!
