Publisher's Description

The Blessed OneAfter Joel Morrison lost his children in the 1952 Kern County earthquake, God blessed him with a successful business and with five more children. But now that those children are grown and living their own lives, Joel worries that the devourer has once again set his sights on the family that God has blessed. For the most part, Joel's children are successful and rich yet very unhappy. So, in an attempt to teach his children a lesson in giving, Joel invites all of them on a family vacation in the Bahamas, where he plans to announce a change in his will-he is giving away most of his fortune to charity. But Joel's declaration is not the biggest surprise of their vacation. Shockwaves are sent throughout the Morrison family, and Joel's plans change. The Wild OneDee Dee Morrison-Milner is a movie star and the wild child in the Morrison family. When her younger sister, Elaine, asks her to adopt an African orphan child (Natua), Dee Dee agrees because adopting an underprivileged child may be good for her career. But when a psychopathic fan fixates on Dee Dee's new family, she finds herself running from a stalker. When Natua is kidnapped, Dee Dee turns to her estranged husband, Drake Milner, in hopes of finding the child whose kind nature stole her heart and helped her return to God.

The novel, while short in length, is powerful in terms of the themes it brings forth in the mind of readers. First, there is the theme of what legacy we leave behind for our children. Second, being honest with where one's relationship is or isn't with the Lord. Third, being a person of prayer believing God doesn't just hear, but answers. Finally, reading God's Word regardless of our life happenings. Whether the situations are good or difficult isn't the standard by which people determine the need for His Word.

In the pages, we begin to learn about a widower with five grown children. He has loved the Lord, thanked God for His blessings and prayed for his children. He has reached a place where Joel believes he must reconsider how he has written his will, dispersing his assets. Now begins the real heart of the book as to how his children will react and respond to his idea as well as the reason.

For me, this was an enjoyable novel to read, and I can recommend it highly to others. I believe it really engages the heart of the reader as well as the mind. The characters depicted and their life situations are something we can relate to in one fashion or another. I am hoping that the author continues to write more novels about this family really developing the plot more as well as bringing in secondary or background characters. As a reader, I want to know how a certain discovery or situation comes to a resolution in more detail with more description. Other than that it is a quick read and full of encouragement and hope.
