"God had an only Son and He was a missionary." With these words, David Livingstone confirmed that he, too, would spend his life telling people in far-off lands about the love of God. This explorer, doctor, author, and missionary longed to see "the smoke of a thousand villages," because huddled around African tribal fires were people who might never hear the story of God's love unless missionaries obeyed God's call to serve Him. David Livingstone is one of 22 men and women whose exciting adventures will be enjoyed by the whole family. As you read each of these wonderful stories aloud during family times or on your own, you will see how you, too, can reach out to your world through deeds and prayer to tell others the good news about Jesus and His love.
David Shibley is founder and chairman of Global Advance, a ministry providing on-site training, resources, and encouragement for church and business leaders worldwide. Founded in 1990, Global Advance provides training for thousands of church and business leaders annually in dozens of the worlds least served nations. Since its founding, Global Advance has provided face-to-face training for over 568,000 church and business leaders in 80 nations. David has ministered in over fifty nations in conferences, churches, and evangelistic outreaches. Also, he ministers extensively throughout the United States challenging the American church to reach its full missions potential.
Raised in a pastors home, world missions has been a central theme of Davids life and ministry. The long-term vision of Global Advance is to equip and assist one million pastoral leaders in planting one million new churches. The "marketplace million" is a vision to equip one million Christians in business as "marketplace missionaries" to impact the workplace for Christ. A major emphasis for David is mentoring young men in ministry. He has been interviewed on several Christian television network programs including The 700 Club, TBN, and Daystar.
David is the author of numerous articles and twenty books including the acclaimed missions classics, A Force in the Earth and The Missions Addiction. He is a graduate of John Brown University in Arkansas (where he was named 1995 Alumnus of the Year) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also holds an honorary doctorate from Oral Roberts University. He and his wife, Naomi, have been married since 1972 and have two married sons and four grandchildren.

MannyGeorgiaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Good for small groupsMarch 19, 2012MannyGeorgiaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I bought this book with the intention of using it with my small group of 12-15 year old girls. It provides summaries of the lives of missionaries that have already died that had a big impact. I like that after the story it has a challenging thought about reaching others for christ and also a key point to pray about in your own personal life. With my group of girls i have found that some of the vocabulary is a bit hard for them so i find myself explaining alot. Over all its good for the purpose that i had intended. If you want some general knowledge about missionaries or something for a small group this works.
