There are so many questions in life... but few are as universal as: "What is the afterlife like?" For those who have put their hope and trust in Jesus Christ here on earth--Heaven awaits. Addressing questions as basic as What will we do there? and What is it like?, theologian Dr. Paul Enns dives deep into the Scriptures while reflecting on the very personal nature of what is to come. Heaven Revealed is concurrently a helpful, easy-to-read guidebook for Christians as well as an encouragement for those of us who are left here on earth after our loved ones who are Christians pass away. Follow along as Dr. Enns succinctly leads you through what the Bible has to say about Heaven.
In grief, we all need hope--hope for our loved ones who are now gone, and hope for ourselves as eternity looms closer. Heaven should be something to look forward to, not something to be confused about.

When I was saved, I found out I was right! As a Christian, the promise I have is going to heaven. This is why I was excited to read Heaven Revealed by Paul Enns.
Dr. Enns is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and is best known for his work The Moody Handbook of Theology, a resource that I have found helpful on numerous occasions.
He captured my attention and heightened my desire to read the book in the introduction where he described an incident that changed his life forever. After coming home from teaching a seminary class, he found Helen, his wife of 45 years lying face down on the kitchen floor. Although he and medical personnel attempted to revive her, she passed away.
"That singular event has changed my life and my thinking. My thoughts are constantly focused on heaven. I'm absorbed with the thought of heaven. The thought of reunion with my beloved Helen!"
Dr. Enns' evident love for his wife and the pain of losing her added a layer to the book that should not be overlooked. There is a difference when someone writes from a personal perspective that enriches the reading and learning experience. His personal anecdotes were edifying and refreshing because they highlighted what a great marriage he had with Helen. Marriage is great and the Enns obviously had a wonderful marriage.
This book serves as a primer on heaven and there is no need to worry about being drudged down by highfalutin theological lingo. Dr. Enns communicates at a very accessible level and his personal stories serve as good illustrations to the topic he's discussing. Dr. Enns purposed to "examine Scripture passages of our glorious future, of heaven, of the glory of God, of our relationships with loved ones, of our environment, and of our activity in heaven."
Although scripture passages were used, much of the book was relegated to the realm of conjecture, which I would have been fine with if it explicitly said so. The way the book read, quotes were elevated to the level of scripture to make a point or to answer a question, which wasn't convincing. I was also disappointed with the amount and quality of quotes used, which in my opinion took further credibility away from the book. Many times the quotes didn't add a novel thought to the discussion, felt superfluous, and were divorced from a nexus to scripture.
This book had a lot of promise, but ended missing the mark for me.

Heaven is a subject that causes an assortment of questions, concerns and debate. I have been intrigued with the thought of Heaven as of late and these being the case have reviewed two vastly different books on the subject.
After suddenly losing his wife of 45 years, Enns began a quest to answer the longings of his heart. His search lead him to write this book.
Enns;s background seems sound: (minister through Biblical Training & Leadership Development, Idlewood Baptist Church, Tampa, Florida, and serves as professor and director of the Tampa Extension, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary)
Some of the topics of discussion are where is heaven? What kind of body will we have? What will the new heaven and earth look like? What will life be like in heaven? What will we do in heaven? What will our relationships with others be like?
While I didn't agree with all of Enns's ideas, I did appreciate his attempt at shedding some light on some very interesting theologies.
Though at times it seemed like he was overstretching the biblical verses he was applying, making ‘claims into certainties' based on one or two passages from Scripture.
Over all though I did enjoy the fact that Enns tried to back up what he was asserting with biblical content, this was far better than the previous book that I reviewed.
So in closing I would recommend this book generally, with caution. It is a great resource to help you understand that life doesn't end when our life here ends. It will instill a peace about life after death and the assurance that we will one day be reunited with our saved love ones.
I received this book from Moody Publishers in the exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Moody!

I have experienced this myself after losing my precious loved ones who have trusted Christ as their Savior. The way the book was written touched me at a very personal level. It brought back memories and thoughts of my loved ones as I reflected on what they would be experiencing in Heaven.
Heaven Revealed answered a lot of questions I have asked myself and a few I hadn't thought about. This is one of the most comprehensive books on this subject I have read.
I appreciated how easy to read it was. There wasn't a lot of theological jargon to wade through. Anyone could read it and without difficulty grasp the material.
Some books I have found are filled with the author's opinions or ideas, but this book is saturated with Scripture. Everything he says is documented with Bible references. It became a Bible study as I looked up the scriptures he shared. I think it will be a great lesson for a group or church class.
I really liked the illustrations he used and personal experiences about his marriage and wife. Another thing I was impressed with is that almost every chapter had a box with a bare bones outline of the facts covered. This made it nice when I wanted to look back and have a quick review.
The book inspired hope and comfort in me. I know that someday I will be there and how wonderful to truly know what my Lord has shown me about my future destination in His Word.
In exchange for my honest review, I received a copy of the book from Moody Publishers.
