I haven't finished this book yet, but am very satisfied at what I've read so far. I was concerned going into it after reading someone else's review saying that this may be something like a false gospel (can't remember her exact wording but it was something like that). Well, I like how Randy made it very, very clear that he could be wrong about some things, and that you could contact him if you had Biblical evidence for a reason he was wrong. He also makes it clear that the Bible is the Word of God.
That being said, I'm learning SO much about Heaven! The study guide is great too! Please, do yourself a favor and don't hesitate to buy a copy for yourself....and a friend! :) It's important stuff!
Randy is a great writer. The one fact alone for me to order it was that he had read 140 books in research. and to bring all the good parts listed in over 300 footnotes is impressive. I have ordered copies for most everyone in our congregation. would recommend it to every christian as encouragement to know more about where we all want to end up - in HEAVEN.
As the author suggested, when planning a trip to an unknown place, it is wise to prepare ahead. Study that place. Think on it so that upon arrival, you'll feel comfortable. As a Christian, I plan on going to Heaven, and I appreciate the efforts the author employed to compile this tome.
In addition to many verses from the Bible, Alcorn used his extensive collection of material for his opinions. Although it is an intimidating work with 535 pages, I must say, it's worth the read. (I read a chapter or two each day until finished. It might serve well for a group study.)
The one caveat I have is the repetition. It should have been edited more carefully.
I like how the writer quotes verses from the bible and at the same time gives his opinion trying not to form his own theory or ideas. The writer has done a good research about heaven and I liked it because you usually don't get this information from a pulpil at church. It helps to continue with your faith knowing that God has something special for us in eternity. And I like the expectation of seeing him face to face.
