It isn't quite what I was expecting; I figured we'd be studying about food, exercise, and sleep, but started out by talking about growing, shoes getting too small, etc. I've looked ahead in the book and that's coming. It seems a bit advanced for just starting out in 1st grade, but because it's designed for 1st & 2nd grade, it'll pass.

This is a terrible health book. Remind you this is for first graders and second graders. There's no teacher instructions in this at all. There are no details of what anything is in this book. For example: They expect the children to know what parts of the tooth are: roots, gum, pulp, dentin, and enamel. I'm 35 and I don't know what the pulp nor dentin are. How are they to know? There's no discussion about it either to help explain the tooth and the parts. It just says color the parts of the tooth. Even the back of the book that has the answers to the question, doesn't have a diagram to show you what the parts are. It just says to check to make sure they colored it right. How am I supposed to know that? I'm not a dentist. So as the adult teaching the child, you have no idea what to say. Another example: one page of digesting food it wants to the kids to know what parts of the body does what with the food. How are they to know when there was no discussion about it. This book obviously thinks the adult should know everything there is to know about health and the body. Therefore the adult is to teach what they know and then give the child the book to answer the questions on their own. Big waste of money!!! No way a child can learn when there's no discussion or teacher manual for it.
