Publisher's Description

Premier Healing Ministers Reveal Behind-the-Scenes Stories of Their Surprising Journeys

Bill Johnson, pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California, and Randy Clark, founder of Global Awakening, are known worldwide as the eminent leaders of successful healing ministry. They witness the miraculous regularly and see thousands touched powerfully by God. Yet it wasn't always so.

For the first time, these close friends and esteemed leaders share their personal journeys behind life in the healing spotlight. In candid interviews with one another, they reveal how and why they first got into healing ministry; the breakthrough experiences that propelled them; the lessons that helped them grow over the years; how they learned--through trial and error--to see what the Father is doing in each situation; and the most amazing miracles they've seen.

Inspiring, informative, unique, and vulnerable, this once-in-a-lifetime book contains material not previously taught on or talked about by either leader. Including specialized, detailed insights about healing, Bill and Randy give a rare and fascinating glimpse into the startup, failures, and successes of a life devoted to healing prayer.

I have read many books on the ministry of healing. There are many that are good, but I've found there are few that truly are incredible. "Healing Unplugged" is one of the few. After reading this book, it not only fills you with incredible insight and wisdom, it inspires you. Honestly, after reading this book, you will be stripped of every excuse the next time a person in a wheel chair crosses your path.

"Healing: Unplugged" is a book with a unique format: two interviews with two friends who have been involved in the healing ministry for many years, and who have worked alongside each other, as well as well-known leaders worldwide. Bill Johnson and Randy Clark converse and share memories.

I am having a hard time finding an adequate descriptor for some of the ideas exposed in this book. For instance, the authors mention that they were wondering how to start/continue their ministry in an effective way - nothing wrong with this - and that their example was other people's way of doing things, even words, positions and gestures. I cannot but wonder where the Bible was left during this process. Now, please understand that I value other people's example, but when it comes to Biblical doctrine, the foundation cannot be human experience. Another example is when Bill Johnson describes an extraordinary experience one night; he started by saying he was still learning about recognizing spiritual events, when he felt something he would assume to be due to an "angelic presence" (p.67). I kept reading, curious to find more about that presence, but he never said anything else about it. I then started wondering what source that angelic presence came from - God or Satan. Once more, no support from the Bible, just personal experience and reference to other people's experience. Randy Clark also describes supernatural experiences, like heat waves or warmth that made him feel at peace.

In other words, the focus of both interviews is the miraculous; the main search of the experiences described is healing. Throughout the pages, there is no mention about teaching/discipleship, nor encouragement to know God and get closer to him. Moreover, salvation, the most wonderful miracle there could ever be, is set aside.

I would strongly discourage people from reading this book; healing is wonderful, and it a precious blessing God bestows on some people. However, as wonderful as it is, it should never be the core of any christian ministry nor the motivation for people to know about God. If someone is interested in knowing more about Mr. Johnson and Mr. Clark, this would be a good alternative to a traditional biography.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange of a review. In no way has this biased my opinion on the book or on the authors.

Healing: Unplugged: By Bill Johnson and Randy Clark. In this book we have the opportunity to hear from two greats in the faith about their walks with God and how they got to where they are today! Its filled with lessons learned, amazing stories of healing and how God spoke to them and more. My husband and I are avid listeners of Bill Johnson's sermons and I believe have read almost all the books he has written! He has such amazing insight into scripture and revelation that will just blow your mind! I loved hearing about how he got to where he was and how God called him to pastoring in Redding. Randy Clarks testimony on how God called him was just amazing! I think we can all relate to these people and what they've gone through. Its amazing how God can take normal people and make them do extraordinary things. It took a while to get through this book as my husband kept snapping it up to read as well! Its one that will definitely be going in our personal library, it has been so helping that my husband is even considering buying copies to give out to the volunteer's in his area in our church! I highly highly recommend this book!!!

this is a very interesting book, well written, and full of biblical truth. The book is set up in 2 sections, the authors interview each other, and it is basically 2 conversations about a subject they have deep knowledge and experience in, and yet are very humble about...healings. I have to admit, sometimes the candor in which they write about seeing the deaf hear and the paralyzed walk struck me as unnerving, and yet, I fully believe that if I had seen what they have seen I would be able to speak with confidence about it as well. Both men are so clear to remind the reader throughout the discussion that it is God who is doing the work, and as they fumble through their role it is, God blesses their desire to be obedient, even when they (in hind sight) would change things.

This book is written in an interview format where Randy Clark first interviews Bill Johnson and then Bill Johnson interviews Randy Clark. The stories these men tell are interesting to say the least. They are stories of how they got involved in a healing ministry, problems they encountered early on, and what they have learned in the process of developing a healing ministry. The interviews are full of stories of healings they have seen in their ministry.

The two problems I have with the book are probably not going to get me any positive votes here. Those who love Johnson or Clark will see me as merely attacking them personally and that is not my motive. My motive is pure as best that I can. My first problem with the book is that the book seems to paint a picture of Jesus as simply a healer and not much is made about Him as Savior and Lord. That is not to say that Johnson or Clark are not concerned with people being saved for I believe they are but the book does not mention this as a purpose of healings. Yet healings in the book of Acts allowed for the gospel to be preached which was a major purpose of signs and wonders (Mark 16:20; Hebrews 2:4). The Apostles focused on Jesus mainly as Savior in the book of Acts and used healings to focus on His saving purposes. Take Acts 3 for example where Peter and John see the crippled man healed by God's power (Acts 3:6-8). The Lord used this healing to bring about the gospel message to these Jews (Acts 3:9-26). The healing focused on Jesus as Savior and Lord. It seems that was the primary motive for the Apostles (Acts 14:3).

Secondly, the book lacks Scripture. The book is 168 pages but only 3 Scriptures are cited. Three? The book is full of stories from Johnson and Clark about healing but nothing is taught from the Word of God. One chapter even talks about learning to hear the voice of God but nothing is said about Scripture which is where God speaks (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:16-21). Even if you believe that God speaks outside of Scripture, any true believer believes that the Word of God alone is the inerrant and infallible Word that we judge everything else by (1 John 4:1-2). Yet this book, which is trying to teach us that healing comes from God for His glory, has only 3 Scriptures in the entire book and not one of the three are even dealt with but merely cited.

I do believe the Lord heals but I believe also that we need to teach the Word of God when it comes to healing. Let us not base our healing ministries upon the thoughts and opinions of men but upon the inerrant and infallible Word. Everything rises and falls upon Scripture. The Scriptures are our primary and only infallible source. I do pray that Bill Johnson and Randy Clark are preaching the gospel and declaring that Jesus alone saves but this book does little to show that.
