Healing: Revised and Expanded
I wrote a review of this book in May of this year, but want to add to that review now. This book is a wonderful introduction to healing prayer, written by a man who has taken the time to research the history of healing prayer and who expresses what he has to say in understandable prose. It was an eye-opening experience for me to read this book as I come from a Christian tradition that largely has ignored this topic. Those who think that healing prayer is the stock in trade of charlatans, ought to read this well-presented, even understated, treatment of the subject. The prayer team at my current church uses this book (and others written by Francis MacNutt as part of his training course on healing prayer) to train members of the prayer team. Earlier this summer a Christian friend of mine was diagnosed with bone cancer. I mailed my copy of this book to him and he reported that it was devoured by he and his wife immediately, was a great encouragement for his family, and helped make his faith even stronger than it was before. It is a marvelous book covering a subject that too many of us have ignored. This autumn I had the privilege to visit and pray with my friend and his family and witnessed God heal several tumors overnight. What an awesome God we have! Needless to say, my personal faith has radically increased because of this experience. I also appreciate and acknowledge the work Francis MacNutt does in the area of healing prayer for encouraging me to expand my spiritual knowledge. Some plant, some water, but God provides the growth. Thankfully, Francis MacNutt has been planting and watering for a long time. This book is one of the seeds.

I recently experienced healing prayer when a bad knee was healed at a healing service. The knee has prevented me from strenuous exercise for 21 years, but was healed by the Lord. Frankly, I was a bit amazed and thoroughly overjoyed (it's been a month of great exercise ever since). I decided to read up on healing prayer and found this book to be totally engrossing, informative, and mind-expanding. I would recommend it to anyone interested in enlarging their understanding of this powerful expression of our wonderful God.

This book is a very practical guide for anyone desiring healing or is new in exercising the "gift of healing."While, at time, MacNutt's traditional Catholic upbringing clouds his message, he leaves no doubt that healing is available to everyone who believes in Christ and is obedient to the Holy Spirit's leading.
