Kelly@Tabithas-Team5 Stars Out Of 5July 1, 2010Kelly@Tabithas-Team"We live in a fallen world and if often falls on us," Dr. Kellemen explains in God's Healing for Life's Losses. This has become one of my favorite quotes. We've all been hit by pieces of this world, and sometimes the blow is harder than others. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, the loss of a dream, or simply an unexpected change in our circumstances, we can be left with a wound that we can't even describe. This is the kind of wound that causes your soul to hurt on the inside with physical pain.We call it grief. So how does this book help? Dr. Kellemen does not assume that a couple of scripture verses and a prayer will make everything all better. But he also doesn't leave you empty-handed.God's Healing for Life's Losses leads us into healing by challenging a process most of us are familiar with.Even if we have never studied the subject, most of us have heard of the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. There is one problem - this process is simply a description; an observation of what typically happens to someone who is experiencing grief. There really is nothing intentional about it. If we just let life happen to us, this is typically how we will respond. However, as Christians, we know we have a sovereign, loving God who doesn't want us to just let life happen to us. In the midst of our confusion, we can go to his Word and find the examples that he gave us on how to seek him for healing. We can be intentional about the process. This book gives us the direction to start on that journey by outlining God's process for grief recovery: candor, complaint, cry, comfort, and growth. Don't worry; this is not a quick 5-step magical program. It is more like a road map to help you on your journey, even if you have to wander back a few times. If you have a friend who is dealing with grief or depression, this would be a great gift.
Brad Hambrick5 Stars Out Of 5June 9, 2010Brad HambrickGrief is an experience that one out of every one person will face. Unfortunately, the more people we love the more times we will experience significant grief. In the midst of the pain we often ask To love or not to love? and are tempted to consider not loving as the better option.Robert Kellemen has written an excellent book to guide us through this difficult (and often repetitive) season of life. The quality is good enough to warrant an endorsement from Grief Share. There are three aspects of the book that I would like to highlight in this post.In closing, I would agree with the words of Garrett Higbee (President of Twelve Stones Ministries and Executive Director of Harvest Bible Soul Care), Gods Healing for Lifes Losses takes on traditional thoughts about grief and loss and turns them upside down. There is refreshing honesty about the pain of loss and the permission to be real with God and others as we embrace the mourning process together. This book is biblical, personal, and healing; I highly recommend it.

Tell us a little about yourself. I graduated with my BS in Pastoral Ministry from Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA., my Th.M. in Theology and Biblical Counseling from Grace Seminary in Winona Lake, IN, and my Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Kent State University. I am also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). I pastored three churches in Ohio and Maryland. For over a dozen years, I was the Chairman of the Master of Arts in Christian Counseling and Discipleship Department at Capital Bible Seminary. I am now the Professor-at-Large for that program. In my role as Founder and CEO of RPM Ministries, I write, speak, and consult about Christ-centered, comprehensive, compassionate, and culturally-informed biblical counseling and spiritual formation. I am the Executive Director of the Center for Church Equipping for the Association of Biblical Counselors. Additionally, he serves as the Launch Director for the new Biblical Counseling Coalition.
What was your motivation behind this project? My ministry to real people with real hurts motivated me to write Gods Healing for Lifes Losses. People quickly grow weary of Christian books that pretend. Theyre tired of Christian counselors and well-meaning friends who dispense far too much happiness all the time, wonderful peace of mind. Theyre also gravely disappointed when the answers to their questions about suffering reflect more of the wisdom of the world than of the truth of Gods Word. The purpose of the book, as the title and sub-title suggest, is to assist people on their grief and growth journey to find Gods healing hope in their hurts and losses.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? In a biblical sentence: you can grieve with hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). Gods Healing for Lifes Losses gives readers permission to grieve and offers a pathway toward hope. I want people to see their suffering from Gods perspective without denying the reality that suffering still hurts. What would I like readers to take away? The title and subtitle say it best. Id like readers to walk away with Gods healing hope.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Throughout God's Healing for Life's Losses I share my story of my grief process over the death of my father. In many ways I "worked through" again the process of moving through hurt to God's healing hope.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Sometimes the second we hear words like loss and grief, our minds focus exclusively on death and dying. Gods Healing for Lifes Losses focuses on any type of lossfrom the grand loss of death, to the daily casket experiences of the loss of a job, the loss of a dream, the loss of a relationship So anyone struggling with any life loss would benefit from reading Gods Healing. Gods Healing for Lifes Losses also equips spiritual friends, pastors, and counselors. When were helping hurting people, it can get messy and confusing. A few handles, a few road markers on the journey sure would help. Thats what Gods Healing for Lifes Losses offers. It provides a map without becoming a straight-jacket. It suggests eight directional markers that become something of a GPSGods Positioning Systemfor the grief and growth journey.
