That doesn't seem to be an easy thing to do these days. I especially appreciated the hope the author gives in dealing with this heartbreaking issue.
Elaina WChicago, ILAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Sensible Guide for Understanding Kids Who CutOctober 18, 2010Elaina WChicago, ILAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I struggled with cutting for almost six years and have read a dozen books on the topic, but I still learned something new from this book! The information Marv gave on the developmental stages of adolescents was probably the most helpful section of the book for me; it made sense of why all the "issues" in my early childhood (child of divorce, part of a blended family, feelings of abandonment and rejection) that didn't seem to be a big deal as a kid came to a destructive head during adolescence.
Overall, Marv's book provides a balanced look at why people self-injure AND how to help them. It's a worthy contribution to the growing body of Christian literature on the subject.
Jim Magee5 Stars Out Of 5June 6, 2008Jim MageeAs a high school Counselor this has been the best book I have seen in helping kids who struggle with self injury. Penner speaks to kids, parents and helpers. A very practical and insightful book to help all understand the what is behind the cutting.
