Healing Grace ( Touch of Grace book #3 )

    By: Beth Shriver

Oh my, what a book. This was my first book to read of Beth Shriver and I really loved it. This is the third book in Touch of Grace. I have not read the first two, but if they are anything like "Healing Grace" they will be awesome. I would say you can read "Healing Grace" as a stand alone. Beth Shriver has herself a winner with this one. She has done an excellent job with the characters and bringing two different worlds together. The Amish and the English working together .

Abby's mom passed away a few years back leaving her with her dad, Jim she calls him. Abby really has a hard life since her mom's passing. Her dad is abusive to her and things keep getting worse. Abby and Jim goes to a horse sale. She buys her a horse with the money her mom left her. She really loves horses. While traveling back they have an accident. Her horse is hurt. Mose Fisher is a handsome young Amish man and he comes upon them after the accident. He offers to help , but Abby tells him she can take care of her horses. Mose wants to help Abby and there is something that draws him to her. Things gets lots worse at home and Abby has a decision to make. She needs help , but where can she go and who can she turn to? Will Mose and the Amish help Her, or will it be against their belief? There is a lot of forgiveness and healing in this story and my heart goes out to Abby. Can she forgive the pain she has been through with her dad and let her heart heal? Can she ever trust another man. Well to hear more of Abby and Mose I highly recommend reading "Healing Grace" you will not be disappointed.

I was given a copy of this book from the author for my honest review and I have given it.

Life on a Texas horse farm is hard for Abigail Barker especially since her mothers death. Her father's verbal and emotional abuse towards Abby gets worse as time goes by. Her new horse has been injured adding to her father's long list of complaints. How much more can she endure? Thanks to an Amish-man, Mose Fisher coming to her aide she would not have been able to manage.

Since walking out on the horse farm and her father she suspects he is sick and worries he will not have anyone to care for him. She struggles with why she should care after the way he had treated her? She prays to God for Him to guide her.

What a contrast this must have been for Abby going from feeling unloved and unappreciated to being overwhelmed with the love and protection of the Amish. Might she be able to build a new life among the Amish and possibly with Mose Fisher?

Book three in the Touch of Grace series is a beautiful love story. The author created the character of Abby as being as broken in heart and soul as the new horse Abby cared for so dearly. Then she creates the character of Mose as no doubt being sent by God to rescue Abby, bringing her closer to God and the Amish community where she was meant to be. This story has suspense, danger, romance, trials, tribulation and reconciliation. I can't wait to read more from this author. What a loving and tender heart this author Beth Shriver must have, she is a blessing to her readers.

    I highly recommend this book.

    SERIES DESCRIPTION:

The Touch of Grace trilogy series is about three faithful women who, when faced with three separate hardships, are torn between the men they love and staying true to themselves. Grace saves. Even in a world where retribution is almost expected, the Amish demonstrate that all can be pardoned, by following their vow of no resistance which shows the deep-rooted forgiveness within them.

    My Review:

This novel had a different feel to it than other Amish stories, and I think it's because Abby's stay with Mose reflected true Christian character on his family's part. When Mose and Abby feel drawn to each other, his family actually encourages the relationship instead of prohibiting it. As a result of this, I felt invested in the story and it's characters. It made me realize that no matter who you are, when you join houses there is going to be compromise, concessions, and a middle ground. I thought it was unique how wonderful his Amish family behaved when Abby was in their home.

As always, Shriver delivers the kind of story you want to talk about. Her character studies made me really understand everyone and their feelings in the story, and see why they make the decision they do. It's the kind of tale, that no matter how oft used the story line is used; the author puts a fresh, new spin on the age old question/dilemma of how to make a life together despite completely different backgrounds and pasts.

This book was provided by the publisher for free in exchange for an honest review.

Life has not been very nice to Abby Barker, her Mom has died, and the abuse her Dad used to afflict on her, has now been transferred to Abby.

Abby goes behind Jim's back, she can't bare to call him Dad, and buys a horse with money her Mom left her.

When travel with Jim and the horse trailer, their is an accident and Ginger, the horse, is injured. So begins her chance encounter with Amishman, Mose Fisher. This encounter leads Abby to take sanctuary with the Amish.

She likes what she sees with way of life in the Amish Community. She doesn't like that it is a man's world...coming from an English world. She loves the busyness, and the being there for one another.

Enjoy absorbing yourself in the confines of the Amish Society. Will Mose, who is attracted to Abby, leave his heritage? Will things get better with Abby's embittered Dad? Will Ginger be able to fulfill the destiny that Abby hopes for? These and other questions will be answered, and you are going to love this book! Enjoy!

I received this book through First Wild Card Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

In Healing Grace, Beth Shriver has penned a phenomenal story of forgiveness and healing---and the lives of two people from very different, clashing worlds where seemingly never the twain shall meet.

Abigail Barker has never known kindness or affection from her father since her mom passed away. Starving for love, but covering herself with a shield of protection from hurt, she finds herself drawn to a handsome Amish man, Mose Fisher. When her father's physical and mental abuse drives her away, she finds herself in the welcoming arms of the Amish people. Caught up in the peaceful lifestyle of the Amish---with their white picket fences, yellow daisies, pink-lace cactus flowers, and love of family, it's easy to pretend she is one of them. But when tragedy strikes, reality sets in---leaving Abby with a heart wrenching decision. Will she return to her ramshackled farm to help her sick father in need, or stay with Mose and the Amish people she has grown to love?

I love Amish books and I cannot resist the temptation to say here...Beth Shriver, where have you been all my life?! I can't believe I have never read this amazing author's books. This is one of the best written, realistic novels about the Amish I have ever read. Some tough topics such as alcoholism and abuse were touched on with compassion and finesse, and each character was fleshed out and multifaceted. A truly wonderful story of God's grace, forgiveness, and healing...I highly recommend this novel! Nicely done, Ms. Shriver!
