I am completely satisfied with the layout and up to date translation that is provided in the HCSB. This is an absolutely wonderful Bible at a most affordable price. For personal study, research or sermons, it is an indispensable tool that has so much information , you will be amazed. Heading/texts/bullet points not found in my other Cambridge or Zondervan Bibles. Notes and center reference promote context and clarity. The print size is perfect . Dimensions remarkably handy not bulky. Bible is printed in S.Korea all praise to YHWH for his glorious witness in Asia . Binding , sewing and cover quality is 100% This is fantastic Bible. Am praying when if God wills to purchase an entire case !
This bible is the best. Not only the easy read style but all the references that are packed into a thin line bible are great too. Its not a big thick bible that is bulky to carry. It's a nice campact bible that you can carry and read all the time...
Translation: IF you're not already familiar with it, I can't say enough about it. Research the net, and read the many excellent blog entries about it. I've already found places where it's even more accurate than the respected NASB! It has become my favorite, all around translation, behind my NKJ/NAS/NET.THIS particular bible: If you have great vision, and like the thin format...you have a winner. I'll only point out that the text is NOT 10.5, as is pointed out in Holmans' catalog, excerpted here by this e-tailer's website. I'd say 9-9.5 would be accurate. If you need a larger text size, take advantage of the "Giant-Print, Hand-Size" that's offered here. It has a true 10.5 point text that's much easier to read. You do give up all of the many center-column references. However, it still maintains many of the key references at the end of the paragraphs. Both editions I ordered were in the bonded leather, and I have no complaint. It's textured, with an imprinted 'grain', and quite supple. Within a few days of handling, it will lay flat for you with no problem. If you ever did have a problem with the binding on a Holman leather bible, they'll replace it for you FREE. How can one go wrong?Christianbook.com has been wonderful to deal with on the telephone, and in e-mail.
There's not a translation being offered today that I like better than the HCSB. The consensus from hermeneutics instructors is that we should consult with at least a formal and functional translation when reading a mediating one to get the best sense of the passage being studied. My experience has been that it reads so well that I rarely consult other translations. It's simply the most unique bible reading experience I've ever known. So why do I have to take away a star? For my tastes, this bible's print is too light. You need near perfect reading conditions to see the text clearly unless you hold it up close but doesn't that defeat the purpose of a large print bible? Also, would it have hurt to make it darker like the Holman Illustrated Study Bible or the impressive Light Speed Bible, both CSBs? I looked in various places trying to get a print size for this bible. CBD.com has a very detailed description that says it has 10.5 pt. type. Don't believe it! I compared it to my wife's 9.5 pt. ESV as well as the other 2 bibles I described. At best it matched the HISB that has a 9.0 type print size. If you can get past these 2 quibbles you'll have what you need. The only reason I deducted 1 star instead of 2 is because of how beautiful and well constructed this bible is. In that sense, its a gem. Maybe I'll feel differently about it in the future. For now, it doesn't suit my purpose. Back to the Light Speed.
I was so happy to recieve this Bible in the mail so promptly. I concur with my pastor when he says it's an "exquisite" translation and I love the large print and ultrathin, more compact size. I'm so excited to add this to my collection of beloved Bibles and I will treasure it for years to come.
