The Biblical Scholars involved in making the HCSB far exceed most all other translations. The reading is smooth, logical, and in present day English. The translation in accuracy that is as scholarly would be the NASB. Side by side these top translations are excellent for solid accuracy and as close as one can translate from other Biblical languages into English.
The HCSB notes are easy to understand, and explain passages more fully.
Those who were on the translating teams are listed, and their denominational involvement, and educational degrees are listed. All translators were "each of our contributors honors the Bible as God's inspired and inerrant Word."
This may not seem like much. But when other translations state openly like "The ESV is an "essentially liberal" translation..." Christian readers need to take notice. Especially true when a translation is given approval by the NATIONAL COUNCIL OF CHURCHES. Bible all have agendas, and an audience they are seeking to buy their Bible. The more conservative Denominations, non-denominations, want as close to a "word for word" translation as humanly possible. The two leading Bible as far as I am concerned are the Holman Christian Standard Bible and the New American Standard Bible.
The HCSB has a poor concordance, and is 40 pages. However Holman does offer a Complete Concordance for the HCSB , The paper quality is pretty much like equal to other Bibles is the lower price range Bibles. A better range of higher priced leather Bibles is also available.
I have a the lower priced Bible and it is holding up quite well.
The HCSB is relatively a newer translation, and was developed by HOLMAN BIBLE PUBLISHERS. IN 1999.
The Southern Baptist Sunday School material use the HCSB in their material. Each Southern Baptist Church is independent and uses what ever material they so choose, and what ever Bible they so want.
