Responsibilities always seem to weasel into 'God time'.

One day you're all 'gung ho' about God, praying when you wake up, before every meal and before bed. You spend random times throughout the day just talking to God. You study your bible and sing songs on praise.

But then the next thing you know, you start promising 'God time' after lunch, when you finish this, when you get home, and at the end of the day you offer up a prayer that ends mid sentence because you fell asleep.

We live in a world all about the go. People are praised when they stay busy, and you're suppose to understand when someone "doesn't have time for reading the bible and praying today."

I'm definitely more of a Martha-things need to get done. But busy-ness breeds distraction, which weakenes one's relationship with God; He should be the number one thing in my life, and everything else will fall into place.

The main point of Having a Mary Heart in Martha World is to find a balance between our worship and service. We should be a combination of both Mary and Martha!

This isn't a quick read, there's a lot of information in this book, but it is an easy read. Written conversationally, with humor, care, and with many personal anecdotes, Joanna Weaver helps you find intimacy with God in one's busy hectic life. If you've ever found yourself in a sea of lists and to-dos, if you've ever felt overwhelmed with everything or feel like your life is getting in the way of your relationship with God, then this is the book for you! 5 out of 5!

I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for this review. A positive review is not expected nor guaranteed. All opinions are my own.

This book, Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, has been on my to-read list for a very long time, so I was really excited when Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers offered me a complimentary copy of the newly released version in exchange for an honest review. I think I put off reading it because I wasnt sure what to expect from it. I had heard high recommendations, but I was also feeling kind of tired of the whole Mary and Martha thing. I was afraid the book would be more of the same.

But it wasnt. This book is full of fresh insights into the lives of Mary and Martha, their relationship with Jesus, their place in history. Its also full of practical wisdom that all women, whether they consider themselves more like Mary or Martha, will be able to apply to their lives. Joanna Weaver teaches, in an easy-to-understand way, the path to the balance we all need.

On page 5, she tells us (about Mary and Martha), That is not to say one is right and one is wrong. We are all different, and that is just as God made us to be. Each gifting and personality has its own strengths and weaknesses, its glories and temptations. You see? No Martha-bashing here. Weaver shows us the strengths and weaknesses, glories and temptations of both women, helps us to identify these in our lives, and teaches us how to let Jesus bring out our best. (Theres even a chart on pages 182-3 to help us see which way we may be leaning.)

I read this book at just the right time and will be praying and waiting and watching for some opportunities to make some adjustments with the loving and gentle guidance of my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. If you also are feeling as if the balance may be off in your life, I recommend this book to you.

Really am enjoying the book. Author speaks to every woman with understanding of reality in each of our lives. She gives good practical advice on how to go to Jesus from our "busyness" to sit at His feet. Am very glad that someone suggested this to me

I had read the book "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World" several years ago. I currently lead a Women's Bible Study and was thrilled when I learned that there was a study guide and DVD to go with the book. We are currently on Chapter 3 and the study has been great thus far.
