I barely got through this CD...I kept turning it off because it was making me so annoyed, even angry.
I expected this to provide guidance on how to be a better wife. Apparently, the approach was supposed to be witty....perhaps it would have been had I read the book or heard Dr Leman himself.
Instead, the CD came across as insulting to both men & women. Stereotypes were abundant throughout, minimizing both genders. The author described men as simple, little boys, incapable of processing more than one thought at a time...then, turned around and said to respect them. When referring to women, he was over the top, writing about how perfect and efficient and capable we are. It was likely supposed to be funny, but it came across as condescending, it was so frequent.
Some of the most frustrating aspects of the book/CD:
- He said to not manipulate men, but yet illustrated how you can use sex to get what you want.
- The language/terminology used was often unfittingly crass.
- It seemed as though the author did not want to offend anyone with references to Christianity; as a result, any spiritual aspects were very watered down.
- The dialogue he suggested for women was over the top; no female I know speaks like that (and the female reading it came across as coy or snobby).
In the end, both my husband and i thought it was a waste of even a few dollars. What a disappointment; although there were some good thoughts in there, they were entirely lost in the style.
Like the CD, have been listening on my ipod. Was disappointed that Dr. Leman doesn't read it, it's a lady which is kinda strange since the book is from a man's perspective. I heard him on Focus on the Family and he was so good and funny, that's what made me look for his books. I also got Sheet Music... very good.
