Great Perspective on Cultural Differences
December 14, 2015
Why the Rest Hates the West does an excellent job of comparing and contrasting western culture to non-western cultures. About a third of the way into the book it would appear that the author gets off track, but he is providing a thorough foundation of where western culture started, before the Renaissance, and how it then changed and how it was drastically changed after the Industrial Revolution. In so doing he gives a most thorough history of the changes in our culture that have alienated us from others. Furthermore finally someone has explained to me why I so desperately wanted to leave the slow and backward small town I grew up in only to find the new, modern and fast-paced world in which I reside leaving me not only with children who live far away that I rarely see (with little chance of ever seeing grandchildren if I ever have any) but no other children in the neighborhood!
If you really want a good perspective on the tensions between world cultures, this book is an excellent resource that I would recommend to anyone.
