Product Description

Harriet Tubman (1822-1913) The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.Ps 34:17

Back: Harriet Tubman was born a slave in Maryland around 1822. As a young girl, she was struck in the head by a two-pound weight, which caused her to have periods of unconsciousness for the remainder of her life. While she appeared to be unconscious, she had visions and dreams, and being a devout Christian, she believed these visions came from God and were meant to guide her. Eventually Tubman escaped from slavery via the Underground Railroad. Courageously, she returned to the South many times to rescue and lead to freedom over 300 other African-Americans. She was proud that no lives in her care were lost. During the Civil War, Tubman worked for the Union forces and even became the first woman to lead an armed raid, helping 700 slaves escape by boat to freedom. Her achievements have earned her an honored place in American history, where her life story serves as an inspiration to this day.
