Lysa's new book is filled with stories, Scripture, and encouragement for readers to discover the deeper truths of God. As a bonus, Lysa has provided a Bible study section to help readers apply the principles in Walking by Faith. ChristianBookPreviews.comWhat Happens When Women Walk in Faith by Lysa TerKeurst, chronicles the author's own journey from a faithful life to a faith-filled one, while showing readers the key points of what can be their own similar journey. TerKeurst uses powerful personal examples to share her story with her readers and inspire them to trust God, following where He leads.
TerKeurst goes through the five phases of developing trust in God: leaving, famine, believing, death, and resurrection. With a friendly, personal style, nationally-known speaker and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries TerKeurst shows that, though the journey can be frightening, both she and God are there to help anyone brave enough to undertake it. I believe God gives every woman a dream. When a woman begins to walk in faith toward God, He will give the dream, TerKeurst explains in the Introduction. Later, TerKeurst presents the structure of her book: In the following chapters, I want to talk with you about the five phases I've identified in the Bible common to people who have stepped out with God in pursuit of their dream. Though TerKeurst's tone is friendly, and she tries to keep her ideas simple and easy to follow, the personal Bible study section at the end of each chapter can be intimidating and confusing. Instead of boiling it down to key points and questions for her reader to focus on, TerKeurst assigns several passages' worth of reading, giving only the general idea the reader is to ascertain from the reading assigned. The tone, style, and organization of this book are all pretty good, but TerKeurst has eliminated an audience for her book by failing to clearly explain the application section to readers. Readers who can understand vague instructions in their Bible studies and apply them with little guidance, probably don't need a step-by-step guide for following God in faith. I hesitate to recommend this book to a new Christian because of that, which is a shame, considering that Lysa TerKeurst shares her personal experiences genuinely in this book.
