Eleanor Madurski5 Stars Out Of 5August 18, 2008Eleanor MadurskiThis book is an excellent supplement to a study of the Middle Ages. The biographies really draw you into the time period and flesh out the people that would otherwise just be names in a history textbook. The illustrations and maps, although in black and white, are well done and add a nice visual element to the biographies.
Missy M.5 Stars Out Of 5July 16, 2008Missy M.This is an excellent collection of biographies from the Middle Ages time period. Though all of the biographies were great, I especially enjoyed reading the story of Eleanor of Aquataine. I found her life story to be fascinating. We read this book little by little as we studied through the Middles Ages this past school year. I was so impressed by this book that I hope to get the next book in the series for our study of the Colonial period for this school year.

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a self taught artist and I love to draw. I love art in all its forms. I have four children and I work from home.
What was your motivation behind this project? In my conversations with the Editor of this book, Terri Johnson, it was apparent to both of us that it's really important to make the figures appear as REAL people. I am a realistic artist, so I used old references of the historical figures - these art references were often sculptures or bas reliefs, and I combined elements from different pictures to create the new portraits.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? An awareness that the historical people in the book were real people with thoughts, fears, failings, and of course great faith.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Arthur Rackham, Norman Rockwell, M.C. Escher, Maurice Sendak, Chris Van Allsburg
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: There is a new book in this series coming out soon (What Really Happened During Ancient Times) that features Eve, Constantine, Imhotep, Erastothenes, and more. I am illustrating the new one too, and I hope they will look for it! I will also be glad to personally sign and send back copies of this book for readers!
